CPAC 2021

The difficulty in adopting rightist politics is trying to maintain it. You can't offer your followers bread, only circuses, and the same old circus every day won't satisfy them. (Why would it? No party can last long if it bores its constituents.) The only workable path is into greater and more lurid extremism.

So bring out the runes 'n armbands 'n Hakenkreuzen, 'n then colored shirts, torches, billy clubs, castor oil, and anything it takes to make rank and vile fascists feel good about themselves.

How long can that go on? About 20 years in Italy, about 12 in Germany.

40 in Portugal.

Just after the Donald finished speaking, his niece Mary put the boot in, suggesting he will only pretend to run, in order to continues raking in the donations.

As if he'd do such a thing! ;)

Mary T has said since before the election that, if he lost, he won't run in 2024 although he might pretend to run in order to keep the attention and power over the GOP.

I'm seeing at least three distinct possibilities here:

A) Liberal trolling the GOP (your scenario)
B) Cons deliberately triggering libs
C) Accidental design convergence

Ordinarily I'd've guessed "C" but . . .

Not the first time.

Oh, I meant to reference the 2016 gathering.

Really should've used that GIF tho. [emoji14]

Sort of makes you wonder how many "accidentally Naziing" passes the GOP thinks they've got.

I think it's a blatant challenge to liberals. It's a twofur: When liberals point out her Nazi salute she can tell them how stupid they are as PC police then she can point out how stupid they are for not knowing it was whatever ancient greeting it was (I've already forgotten: Greek? Roman. Thanks Mark.

Roman, I believe. Like many things from the Roman Empire, it was co-opted by the Nazis.

It's a shame, because I think a lot of Roman symbology is beautiful, but now it's associated with scum. Ah well.

I (And the indications are that Trump vowed to claim fraud if he lost before the election.)

He already has a history of claiming fraud when he won.

No. It doesn’t make me wonder at all.

Forever and ever.

Well, I'm setting the bar at three.

1) Ingraham's salute
2) Odal rune stage
3) "Stand back and stand by."

Uncle Frank, you're on notice: No more freebies.

I do think that was accidental, though. I shouldn't give her the benefit of the doubt, maybe, but I'm just not clear on this specific instance.

And the pic of Hillary Clinton next to a star of David over a background of money.

And Birtherism.

And Caravans.

And "Very fine people", and the various disingenuous defenses.

And the voter suppression efforts very clearly aimed at black and Native Americans.

And the VRA's gutting.

And anything Steven Miller, Steve Bannon, or Jeff Sessions touched.

And "BLM terrorists".

And Willie Horton.

And Jesse Helms' "Hands" ad.

I just assume the Odal rune was intentional because, again, it doesn't change my opinion of the modern GOP in the slightest if it were accidental. THis isn't even among the top 10 as far as brazen white supremacism goes.

To be clear, I doubt very much T**** personally is behind any of this nouveau-Nazi symbology. He has zero interest or knowledge of any history, and demonstrably no sense of refinement, or artistic class or taste. He's a boor, a philistine. He liked the stage because it gave him 90 minutes of self-publicity time.

The symbology, if it is even planned at all, would be coming from the T**** publicity machine. Does anyone know what happened to Miller, his little Nazi sidekick? He would be far more likely to be injecting Nazism into things deliberately. Then again, he is also rat-cunning enough to know when not to.

I think he's interested in anything he thinks means people worship him, so he probably likes the symbolism.

Miller was just on Tucker Carlson ranting about immigration. I didn't want to open the link.

Which Miller was he talking about? Jason or Stephen?

ETA: I mean what other campaign has TWO Millers aligned with right wing hate?

Based on, oh, say, just the least year, when exactly would that be? We've seen that no matter how many times this happens, it seems to have no effect on the GOP supporters.

And the question of, "Is this Trump himself, or just his minions?" is moot. We could give Trump a pass if he'd shut this down after the first time or two. But when it keeps happening, it's clear he's okay with it. He wants to be the leader of everyone, well, then he accepts the responsibility for everyone, that's what leadership means. As I said before, it wouldn't be difficult to create a committee charged with reviewing such things to make sure the Nazis don't slip something into the imaging. That this hasn't happened means Trump doesn't want it to happen.

To be fair, Miller isn't a Nazi, he's just a racist prick who's okay with Nazis.
