Inauguration Day 20 Jan 2021

Gabbo: "I don't like it. He's got Lady Gaga, Garth Brooks, Jennifer Lopez, and Tom Hanks. Who do we have?"
Trump: "The 4th best Hercules."
Gabbo: *Jaw falls off*
 
After the Inauguration Ceremonies today I laid out in the easy chair and conked out for several hours. A very deep relaxing nap. I felt a lot of tension leave today.

I noticed that Justice Sotomayor pronounced VP Kamala Harris' first name wrong. (accent on the second syllable). Most glaring because VP Harris repeated it the right way in the response.

I noticed it, too. The Justice must have been mortified when she realized what she'd done.

It reminds me of Gettysburg where Edward Everett, who was famous for his oratory, spoke for two hours. Lincoln spoke for not quite three minutes. Yet no one remembers what Everett said.

Funny, I was thinking the same thing. Everett's speech was written down so we do know what he said.

Still I use to know Lincoln's Gettysburg Address by heart. Can't say I know a single line of Everett's speech.
 
Today, we swore into office a Catholic as President, a mixed race female as Vice President, a Jewish man, a Hispanic and an African American into the United States Senate.

The beautiful colors of America.

We know what he said but no one remembers what he said even though the critics lauded his speech at the time and panned Lincoln's. Makes me want to give Stephen L Miller the one finger salute:

I was at work and don't care about the poems & songs & speeches & such, but, when we were getting close to time for the oath, I had it streaming on my phone just so I could turn the volume up on that part and let the others in the office hear it happening.

I don't like Biden or expect much good from him, but the single word that best describes my feeling when it happened is "relief"... not "Gene Kranz finally sitting down at the end of Apollo 13" or "watching the cavalry charge down the hill at the end of The Two Towers" relief, but a bit of relief.

I told someone, "I saw someone name Not Trump get sworn as President."


I don't expect great things from Biden, but if the truth be told, I don't want great things from Biden. I just want him to not be Trump.
 
For truly great things Biden is not the person I'd have picked, but I expect at least a few pretty good, pretty decent things, and not so many awful ones, and in the context of the time I think it will feel pretty great.
