Cont: Trump et al continued “2020 election” conspiracy theories

You would think that somebody would have told this to Trump by now (and in fact, ISTR that Pence has), so it's depressing enough that he keeps saying it. What's really depressing is that we have had, for four years, a President who ever needed to be told this to begin with- it's one thing for your average CTist/TrumpHumper to have such a loose grip on how any of this works, but when it's the President...

Trump knows. He is just setting up a fall guy he can point at and say "it's his fault" when he goes on his talk circuit after his finally booted out. The sorts of people who would pay to hear him talk wont question it.

Plus Trump seems to be the type of person that the more he repeats something, the more it becomes true in his mind.

If Vice President @Mike_Pence comes through for us, we will win the Presidency. Many States want to decertify the mistake they made in certifying incorrect & even fraudulent numbers in a process NOT approved by their State Legislatures (which it must be). Mike can send it back!

Jake Tapper had a good response to this on twitter:

Jake Tapper on twitter said:
He won’t and
You won’t and
They don’t and
They didn’t and
It wasn’t and
He can’t

Otherwise, good tweet (Thumbs up emoji)

ETA: I guess you could see this as the wordy version of Norman Alexander's perfectly succinct response above.

Except that line 5 should read "It was."

Dave

I thought that at first too- that "it was" would have been a more accurate response to "a process NOT approved by their State Legislatures (which it must be)." But that kind of breaks the flow of "won't, won't, don't, didn't,...,can't" and a case could be made that it's good enough to say "it wasn't a process not approved," leaving out the parenthetical "which it must be."

Eh- it'll make a Trumper's head spin either way.

Meanwhile, Giuliani just said, to a Trump crowd in DC, "we need a trial by combat"

Crazy and crazier.

Crazy and crazier.

He also said he would stake his reputation on the fact that they will find criminality in the election.

I'll take that bet. I think I have something of equivalent value on the sole of my shoe.

Trump's speech is basically just a rehash of all his whining to date. Dead voters, out-of-state voters, fraud, blah blah blah.

All nonsense, but I guess it keeps him happy.

Trump Jan. 5: "We go all over the world telling people how to run their elections, and we don't even know how to run ours."

So the question is, does he believe, absent actual evidence, the election was stolen? Or does he say that to keep his base enthralled?

I just filed my complaint to the DC Bar:

“I feel that calling for Chris Krebs, fired Election Security Chief, to be “drawn and quartered” and “taken out and shot” is language unbecoming any licensed attorney and that discipline is called for.”

Perhaps multiple complaints might get someone’s attention.

I had forgotten all about my complaint. I just got a reply:

My response:

“Thanks.

My father was an attorney in Washington, D.C. and it saddens me to see this sort of behavior from fellow attorneys go unpunished.”

McConnell said the "United States Senate has a higher calling than an endless spiral of partisan vengeance" as he dismissed GOP lawmakers’ challenge to Electoral College results.

McConnell warned against actions that would “guarantee the delegitimatizing efforts after 2016 is a permanent, new routine for both sides.”

“Framers built the Senate to stop short-term passions from boiling over and melting the foundations of our republic. So I believe protecting our constitutional order requires respecting the limits of our own power. It would be unfair and wrong to disenfranchise American voters and overrule the courts and the states on this extraordinarily thin basis,” he added.

McConnell closed with this statement: “I will vote to respect the people's decision and defend our system of government as we know it.”

Mike Pence didn’t have the courage to do what should have been done to protect our Country and our Constitution, giving States a chance to certify a corrected set of facts, not the fraudulent or inaccurate ones which they were asked to previously certify. USA demands the truth!

I have to ask this question one more time:

Does anyone still believe conspiracy theories are harmless?

There are idiots "storming" the capitol building driven by two months of lies. Every major claim of voter fraud/tampering in all the battleground states has been investigated and found to be untrue.

Electoral fraud, on the other hand... To borrow a quote from wikipedia,
Electoral fraud, sometimes referred to as election fraud, election manipulation, voter fraud or vote rigging,

What Are Voter Fraud and Election Fraud?
What Is Voter Fraud?

One way to think of voter fraud is unlawful voting by an individual. Every state defines voter fraud (sometimes called unlawful or illegal voting) differently. But, generally speaking, a person commits the crime of voter fraud by doing any of the following acts, intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly:

votes more than once in the same election (double voting)

casts a ballot in the name of an ineligible voter (such as a deceased voter or a voter who moved out of the election district)

registers to vote using a fraudulent name or address

votes with a fraudulent ballot, or

votes despite being ineligible to vote (such as a nonresident, noncitizen, or disqualified voter).

What Is Election Fraud?

We will discuss election fraud in terms of fraud involving the election process. Election fraud can involve unlawful acts by election officials or acts done by others that threaten the integrity (reliability and trustworthiness) of the election process.
