Trump's Coup d'état.

ETA: And, to be fair to Trump, I don't think he was deliberately asking the Secretary of State to break the law. I think the thought in Trump's head was more along the lines of "Waaah!!! Waaah!!! I won!!!! They cheated!!!! It's not FAIR!!!!! I hate you! Everybody hates you!"
Trump didn't know he was asking Raffensperger to break the law means Trump was ignorant of the law and that doesn't let him off the criminal hook.

Not that I expect anyone to prosecute the pitiful creature given he'll be gone in 16 days, 22 hours and counting down. But really, why are you defending him?

Hearing this effete, wannabe dictator in his own words is a thing of perverse 'beauty'.

I can't listen to him for more than a few minutes.:)

In this Politico article, a Georgia law professor claims Trump certainly broke State law during the phone call.

Interesting tidbit, after the Georgia call, Trump tried to steal the election in other states, this time on Zoom.

After the phone call with Georgia officials, Trump phoned in to a Zoom call with legislators from the battleground states of Arizona, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin late Saturday to talk about allegations of voter fraud in the presidential election.

Also on the call were Trump’s lawyer Rudy Giuliani, White House trade adviser Peter Navarro, Justice Department official John Lott Jr. and Chapman University law professor John Eastman, according to a person familiar with the call.

Have to disagree with you, the brief bit I’ve heard sounds the same as his other (non-public speaking) recordings.

I don't hear any slurred speech either.

Trump is clearly repeating the CT he believes about the election.

I don't think he believes any of it. I didn't listen to the full hour but I listened to the highlights, and it seemed to me he deliberately was very careful about making an affirmative statement on anything. then again, it's also pretty typical of him. he never really commits to anything, it's always "people say" or "we've heard" and things of that nature.

He came right out and told Raffensperger than he's breaking the law by allowing the election fraud. I think that crossed the ******* line should anyone choose to prosecute.

Yes, I construed that as a threat against Raffensperger. That's definitely beyond the pale.

I'm listening to the full hour now :eusa_sick: and he's repeating all the lies Rudy has been claiming, all of which were tossed out in courts. It sounds to me like Trump has convinced himself.

The full tape of the call between Trump and Georgia's Secretary of State.

OMG...Trump is going on about Ruby Freeman in the tape claiming 18K votes were fraudulent and that she is a professional scammer. She was completely cleared of any wrongdoing. From Snopes:

"As for Ruby Freeman, she was not arrested by the FBI and she is not suspected (outside of conspiracy-minded circles) of any wrongdoing related to the 2020 election. "

"It's not possible we lost Georgia." Trump can tell because people come out to support him at his rallies.

He thinks that tomorrow there's going to be more evidence presented showing he won by a lot.

More from the audio: No matter what the evidence presented back to Trump says, Trump just denies it and, cuts people off, "there's no way...yada yada."

Not really a surprise. He's cribbing off people on twitter.

Somebody in another thread said to read this book.

Commander in Cheat

Interview with the author here:

... They say Virtue was there playing with his son. Trump sees Ted on the 9th hole and and decides to drive his cart over. He tells Ted: “Congrats on winning the club championship, but you didn’t really win it, because I was out of town.”

Ted tries to laugh it off, but Trump is dead serious. Trump says, “We’re gonna play these last six holes for the championship.” And Ted’s like, “Oh, well, I’m playing with my son, but thanks anyway.” But Trump says, “It’s okay. Your son can play, too.” So what are you going to do? He’s the president. It’s his course. They end up playing.

Apparently, they get to a hole with a big pond in front of the green. Both Ted and his son hit the ball on the green, but Trump hits his in the water. By the time they get to the hole, though, Trump is lining up the son’s ball. Only now it’s his ball and the caddie has switched it.

The son is like, “That’s my ball!” But Trump’s caddie goes, “No, this is the president’s ball; your ball went in the water.” Ted and his son look at each other confused, not sure if this is really happening. Trump makes that putt, and wins one up. Then, according to Golf.com, he tells Virtue something like, “I’ll tell you what, we’ll be co-champions.”

But the members tell me that when you look at the plaques on Trump’s locker there, it says: “2018 Men’s Club Champion.” No “co-” at all.

Notice Trump's MO of bullying the dad like he does with Raffensperger.

Good gravy! Is he on drugs? Seriously. He is slurring his speech and stumbling over words. The repetition of words, broken sentences, awkward pauses, and burst of excitement when he has a knew thought is not typical of his speech patterns but is typical of someone under the influence.

I believe I watched/heard the tape a few times now. And yes, if I didn't know better he sounds drunk. It does seem to be true that Trump does not drink. However, a person with a diminished capacity often speaks in that manner as well.

Congress convenes at noon tomorrow. When January 3 falls on a Sunday, the previous Congress usually moves the opening day to the next day, but that didn't happen this year for some reason.

This will have the election of House Speaker and Senate president pro tempore and other House and Senate leaders. Adoption of rules. Swearing in of new members.

There will be a joint resolution providing for a joint session to count electoral votes on January 6. That is usually a formality. Considering Sen. Gohmert's recent lawsuit, there may be objections to this resolution because it normally incorporates federal law, which would include the Electoral Count Act. So there may be some squabbling over the language.

Senate has adjourned until 12:30 Wednesday. Count begins at 1:00.

No objections to the language for the Senate joint resolution for the count or any action to try to alter the Electoral Count Act.

Gohmert and Cruz didn't lay their money down. I guess they are all show.

Some people say that he snorts adderall.

Where are all the Trumpers? Where are all the people the defend this?

Where are you, you goddamn cowards?

He dismisses the woman, "I'm not asking you."

Trump: OK, Cleta, I’m not asking you Cleta, truthfully. I’m asking Brad. Are you aware concerning the navy ballots that we have now confirmed now. Are you aware concerning the navy ballots that got here in that have been one hundred pc, I imply one hundred pc for Biden. Are you aware about that?
