Trump's Coup d'état.

Admittedly, this is a fantasy. But it is a great fantasy. I'd like to wake up tomorrow to see that Pence is President through invoking the 25th Amendment.

He would need 6 of these 12 people to go along
[Secretary of State Mike Pompeo,
Secretary of the Treasury Steve Mnuchin,
Secretary of the Interior David Bernhardt,
Secretary of the Agriculture Sonny Perdue,
Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross,
Secretary of Labor Eugene Scalia,
Secretary of Health and Human Services Alex Azar,
Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Ben Carson,
Secretary of Transportation Elaine Chao,
Secretary of Energy Dan Brouillette,
Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos,
Secretary of Veterans Affairs Robert Wilkie
Ordinarily he would need two more of four other Cabinet officials except those officials have not been approved by Congress so they would not have votes.

They would send a letter to Congress saying Trump is incapable of carrying out his duties. Trump could send a letter to Congress objecting and Pence would have four days to respond. At which point Congress has up to 21 days to respond. The Democrats holding the House could stonewall while the Democrats in the Senate could filibuster right up until the inauguration.

This would make my year. Trump would be stunned. And my first order if I was Pence would be to recall Air Force One and not let Trump or his family to set foot in the White House.

They might make me have a melt down because I could not handle tens of millions of Always-Trumpers screaming “that’s unconstitutional!”

"Red Alert" seems a little alarmist. There's probably some prudent planning and discussion happening at the highest levels of the Pentagon and NORTHCOM. "Red alert" seems a bit silly for a plan that would be some variation of, "Say no and don't do anything".

Neither the article nor SG's post said "red alert".

I think the article is just saying that they are "on alert". That's probably unfortunate to use in connection with the military, where that phrase or something very much like it has an actual meaning. There is certainly no formal alert that has been called in the US military related to anything going on with the pending transition of power. However, for the first time in American history, there are discussion about it, and people are being watchful. That's bad enough.

The headline says: on alert; and further down in the article is says: Newsweek reported they were on red alert.

Both of those could just be the media making drama. Whereas the following describes the incident a little more calmly:

A new report claims military leaders have discussed their plan of action if POTUS were to declare martial law toward the last days of his term.

Of course they don't have similar weapons, any wannabe insurgents will be fighting with AMFO and IED's.

Sure, such resistance movements are more or less pain in ass, but if they don't have external help, they won't achieve anything against government that won't fall when someone looks at it in wrong way.

(Red) Alert makes sense. The top Generals have to know that, when Trump gives the order and they refuse, some lower-ranking maniacs will refuse to go along with that refusal. Even if they're just 1% of members that's still a lot of them, with rhe same access to weapons as the rest.

That's kind of my point. Saying you're going on "red alert" or even just "alert" is a bit absurd when the plan would be to leap into inaction.

Their constitution consists, of course, solely of the 2nd amendment.

Well, that and the right for Christians to have freedom to worship.
Including. but not limited to the right to tax exemptions even if they use the pulpit for political purposes.

Truthfully...? Eh ... well, I have to say that for the last three weeks, I've been in the trenches so to speak, over on the OAN comment section interacting with them and poking them with a stick and, yes, they DO seem to be about as dumb as a bag of hammers. YMMV.

I'm a little worried that the wiser ones are switching to running silent and communicating in less public spaces. Big enough to be a problem? That's the real question.

Oops, that's right. Also the right not to have the same freedoms for non-Christians or Christians of the wrong kind.

What are said lower ranking sycophants supposed to do, car pool to the WH to guard Trump.

That 1% would have to know they could be tried for treason and without the 99% there was no chance of success.

This I don't worry about. Anyone who has spent time among the "lower ranks" will understand the ability of sensible E-4s to kill good idea fairies. It's going to be January and the swing states that really matter are Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania. There is no enthusiasm in the lower ranks to deploy to Freeze Your Balls Off, Wisconsin to do something they have no interest in.

Even if one percent of our land forces deployed on their own, without weapons and sustainment, they couldn't direct traffic in Pittsburgh. This isn't the Civil War. You can't just take you musket and march off to join the Confederacy anymore.

So while the consensus here is that the Trump Coup d'état is dead, the Arizona GOP has found the Trick That Is Going To Do It: "Bernie to the Rescue"!

These people are insane.
