Major explosion in downtown Nashville

According to several press reports, not long ago this evening a "suspicious" RV was spotted parked and idling outside the Federal building in downtown Cincinnati by the Federal building's security staff and reported to city police, who responded with a large presence and cordoned off the surrounding streets. However, without elaborating, police have since said the scene was "cleared without incident" and nothing threatening was found.

Maybe another motive?

There's an AT&T data center here in SF which was whistleblown years ago by one of their on-site techs for some fairly nasty NSA activity. Maybe the bomber is a USG spook CTist who believes the same type of shenanigans are happening in the Nashville facilty?

Just throwing that one out there, since we're speculating. (it's fun.)

Could be just some freaky woman thinking she can some how cut off global communications by setting up a bomb, while warning people to get out of the way first.

Bit odd, but stranger things have happened.

Or maybe had a grudge against AT&T because of a work related diss. But again, that usually involves killing the people one blames.
Loner is almost certainly going to be the case if this guy blew himself up. (I would say 'themself' but I'm pretty sure we are looking at a male perp here.)

So, depressed, lone nutter, believes in the 5G CT.

Well, we don't yet know who was killed. Maybe someone was and placed inside.

But my point was if one is going to attack one's workplace (like the guy maybe worked at that AT&T building), it didn't fit the typical workplace rage incident.

If one is raging against one's employer, it's not likely that person would just attack an outside wall.

Suppose that depends on whether the person wanted to kill the people they worked with and how close they were to them, while still doing the thing.

Theoretically yeah. But "attack the edifice, but take special care to warn all the people away" does not match any historical incidents of workplace violence I've ever heard of.

Generally speaking, workplace violence occurs because an employee becomes upset with a specific person or persons they work with, and the violence always ends up being directed against that person at the very least.

The location is on one of the major streets in downtown Nashville and in the heart of a vibrant tourism and entertainment district. The proximity to an AT&T facility may be coincidental.

There was a bombing of our local council building once by a disgruntled councillor and that was just on the outside of the buildings. I don't think there is any standard MO for bombings by nutters.

Maybe, but from the reports it was a woman.

The warning broadcast appears to have been the voice of a woman.
To draw any conclusion about the sex of the perpetrator from that broadcast or even the number of perpetrators is quite premature.

Are you sure there has been a report about the perpetrator or are you speaking of the computerized voice that announced the warning?

Indeed, the voice of the broadcast warning was female, but to my ears it also had the character of a computerized voice - many such are available and could have been used.

True, but just running with what has been reported rather than jumping to conclusions

Another video, taken immediately following the blast

I realise that shock can have different effects on people, but the reactions by the woman filming just don’t seem “enough” to me. They feel staged or affected to my ear.
Perhaps I’m so used to the usual OMG OTT reaction from FBers about the most banal of things that I now have a jaded view of reality.

I mean if you overlaid that soundtrack over someone walking through the Chelsea Flower Show, you’d get the impression that she was quite underwhelmed by the displays.

Sure but, assuming she turned on the camera more or less immediately after the blast, she was physically less than half a block from it. Chunks of debris can be seen in the parking lot around her position. This event was definitely something that more happened directly to her, rather than a scene she has come upon, so I imagine she is quite shocked while she's taking that video.

It actually reminds me of another video I watched a few years ago. This video was taken of a violent tornado that tracked directly through populated portions of the city of Tuscaloosa, AL during the major tornado outbreak in 2011. The video is incredible and deserves watching, but I call your attention to the last two minutes or so, after the tornado has passed, as the person making the video drives through the aftermath. He sounds quite like the woman in that video.

And this in turn reminds me of footage we've seen from the 9/11 terror attacks - the immediate, street-level aftermath of them. When the buildings are collapsing, people further away are of course screaming and running as you would expect, and afterwards they are horrified but relatively animated; however the people who were closer, who were quickly enveloped by the dust cloud and emerge from it caked with debris, they behave in a very subdued and stilted, almost stoical manner.
