Trump's Coup d'état.

The die hard faithful are still numerous and completely in thrall of Dear Leader. I'm coming out of deep cover to relay the following. We have established a bridgehead over at OAN. The Comment section is ours! The faithful still believe that Donald will be elected to a 2nd term. I am not making this up. They believe that without Donald the US will become a communist dictatorship despite not knowing what any of those terms mean. We are roundly derided as being unpatriotic Communist fascist marxist chicoms(Chinese Communists) who work for or are in league with Soros, Deep State, and/or the CCP(Chinese Communist Party)(?)We are also pedophiles and baby killers.

If you want to have some fun and a guilty pleasure or two get yourself a discus account, remember to hide comments and join us over at OAN. You'll never forget your first "Cry harder, snowflake" comment. So decadent. Peace out.

It may be emotionally satisfying, but I'm not a fan of riling them up. I am frustrated the GOP did, and then Trump. No good adding even more fuel even if it would be fun.

Quite a brutal takedown in Salon, in part,

Trump has publicly shown himself to be not just mentally unwell but perhaps even a sociopath or psychopath. Sick leaders attract sick followers. Sick leaders also amplify the various mental and other pathologies of their followers and inner circle. Sick leaders channel and therefore worsen the most unhealthy and unjust aspects of a given society. In all, Trumpism is a type of collective social and civic disease spreading throughout America.”

One comment from OAN:

Quote:
FredickW Harvey:

I believe the democrats are still not only hopeful but committed to cheating to our faces.

I have NO IDEA what the Supreme Court can do, or if they also are so corrupted they will do whatever they are told to do by those to whom they are beholden (Roberts to the Pope for example) or of which they are afraid (The assassin(s) of Scalia for example).

Trump has a DUTY (Oath of Office) to protect us from internal enemies and external invasion. So, I suspect this blatant law breaking may force him to declare martial law, close down the civil government - up to and including the supreme court if they do not meet their responsibility, and then go through the the voting history state by state with legal audits and forensic investigations, arresting all those who cheated knowingly, and report out or commission another election under military protocols and strictly supervised for ALL the offices up vote and down vote.

Now, if he decided not to use the military there is still the option of achieving a quick election result by turning voting over to the House of Representatives for president and the Senate for VICE President. You can READ THE INSTRUCTIONS FOR THIS IN THE 12TH Amendment of the Constitution. One state on vote only in each chamber. Currently there are 37 Republican States and 13 Democrat States.

I would prefer NON-MILITARY solution, but I Do trust Mr. Trump to do an honest job at following the law and using the power he has wisely. Either way, the military will have to get involved to protect the people and the vote until this is over.

After it is over we need to find the bad people who committed crimes and render appropriate justice.

It's not a typical comment due to its length, but most commenters seem to agree with all the basic points. Got to run.

I could be wrong, but I suspect that countersuits would please Trump more than annoy him. I can hear him saying, “they are trying to prevent the evidence from being heard. We filed suits against the people who ran the election, but they are filing suit against me personally. That is exactly what crooks like Biden do. Yadda, yadda, yadda.”

Whack-a-doodle on steroids.

This country is so *********.
While people argue, the national debt soars.
America is about to eat itself.

Looks like Nurse Ratched missed someone during med call.

I just cannot understand the kind of muddled thinking that has Trump taking completely extra-Constitutional steps like declaring martial law and commissioning another election under military protocols, but, gosh, he'd rather Trump throw the thing into the House of Representatives, because (in all-caps, no less) THERE ARE INSTRUCTIONS IN THE CONSTITUTION FOR THAT, YA'LL! And never mind that those instructions are only for when no candidate in the (original) election has a majority of electoral votes (when Biden has an easy majority)- just get it there somehow, because that's where we win!

It kind of reminds me of those screwballs who staged OPERATION AMERICAN SPRING a few years ago- folks who professed "unswerving loyalty to the US Constitution," then demanded "citizen tribunals" to investigate and kick out Obama, Biden, Pelosi, etc. Folks who want to destroy the Constitution in order to save it are funny...until they're not.

Back near the start of the Trump Nickname thread, I suggested Bến Tre Trump. "It became necessary to destroy the country to save it."

They are completely devoted to the Eed Plebnista.

We can never be sure of anything when it comes to the future, can we? We can't know what could happen between now and 2024. Trump could end up in prison. Biden could drop dead. So could Trump. Trump could be caught with man in a bathroom with his pants down doing cocaine. But I can say that I have never in my 6 decades seen an election where more people felt as strongly about NOT wanting a president to be re-elected in such numbers greater than those who did. I mean SEVEN MILLION. That's some strong statement there. That kind of emotion doesn't disappear overnight.
In relatively recent memory popular vote margins were greater with Reagan on 1984 (16.9 million) & Nixon in 1972 (18.0 million) but the voter participation was higher in this election.

ETA: As mentioned by Firestone, Obama 2008.

Texas is suing Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin in the SCOTUS in an attempt to halt the vote by the Electoral College!

https://thehill.com/regulation/cour...s-in-supreme-court-seeking-to-delay-electoral

The mind boggles.

I seriously fear for our country, when this sort of thing can be taken seriously. There's just so much wrong with that lawsuit.

The most offensive element of the lawsuit to me has to be the premise that underlies the whole suit. When the pandemic started, officials in some states made it easier to vote in a safe manner. This, the government of Texas is claiming, was unconstitutional.

They aren't alleging that the votes themselves are invalid or not reflective of the voter's intent. They are saying that the electoral changes that allowed all those people to vote easily and safely "cast a dark shadow" over the election.

It's really disgusting.

Ah, the old principle of "I would have won if he hadn't agreed on different rules!"

I didn't know that Texan Republicans are such whiny losers.

I agree. They have a big problem with making voting more accessible. Says a lot.

And I agree, the scariest part about it is how many supporters actually think it's a good idea. They don't care about democracy or even a democratic republic.

Republicans are trying to say "The wrong people are getting to vote" without actually saying it.

"The Democrat strategy of not disenfranchising Democrat voters gave them an unfair advantage and skewed the results" is literally what they are arguing.

This filing is beyond vile.

But there is Truther Math in it too (page 14 in the PDF):

The same less than one in a quadrillion
statistical improbability of Mr. Biden winning the
popular vote in the four Defendant States—Georgia,
Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin—
independently exists when Mr. Biden’s performance
in each of those Defendant States is compared to
former Secretary of State Hilary Clinton’s
performance in the 2016 general election and
President Trump’s performance in the 2016 and 2020
general elections. Again, the statistical improbability
of Mr. Biden winning the popular vote in these four
States collectively is 1 in 1,000,000,000,000,000

https://www.texasattorneygeneral.gov/sites/default/files/images/admin/2020/Press/SCOTUSFiling.pdf

Based on that "logic", what is the "statistical improbability" of Trump winning Iowa, Ohio, Michigan, Florida, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania collectively, given that Obama won all those states in 2008 and 2012?
Just asking question ....

I don't think so. I think at the moment they honestly don't care who gets to vote so long as they vote Republican. This isn't about racism at the moment, it's about winning by any means, fair or foul.

Using the Scientology doctrine of lawsuits. The purpose is not to win but to make life difficult for your enemy.

And who is the enemy supposed to be in this case? Swing states? The people of those swing states? Democracy in general?

The wrong people are people not voting Republican.

The GOP has announced today that they are officially changing their name to the Slytherin Party.

Texas is suing Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin in the SCOTUS in an attempt to halt the vote by the Electoral College!

Presumably the aim here is to get a case before the SCOTUS by hook or by crook, in the expectation that they'll rule on the basis of pro-Trump bias rather than facts, law or sanity. Is that how this might play out?
