Trump's Coup d'état.

Trump is hoping that he'll bump into the president on his way to the courtroom.
Maybe Trump thinks he can get Biden into court in some plot to humiliate Biden.

Or maybe Trump will stupidly ask to depose Biden.

That is so ignorant. The only people who are going to appear in court is Biden's lawyers asking to dismiss and probably succeeding. No deposition is going to occur.

And hopefully Biden will get lawyers' fees and court costs for such a frivolous lawsuit. I hope Trump's idiots get a scolding from the judge we get to see it.

I'm actually thinking the long string of foolish lawsuits has eroded all but the die hard faithful... had they stuck with less clumsy approaches there might be more people willing to object.

The die hard faithful are still numerous and completely in thrall of Dear Leader. I'm coming out of deep cover to relay the following. We have established a bridgehead over at OAN. The Comment section is ours! The faithful still believe that Donald will be elected to a 2nd term. I am not making this up. They believe that without Donald the US will become a communist dictatorship despite not knowing what any of those terms mean. We are roundly derided as being unpatriotic Communist fascist marxist chicoms(Chinese Communists) who work for or are in league with Soros, Deep State, and/or the CCP(Chinese Communist Party)(?)We are also pedophiles and baby killers.

If you want to have some fun and a guilty pleasure or two get yourself a discus account, remember to hide comments and join us over at OAN. You'll never forget your first "Cry harder, snowflake" comment. So decadent. Peace out.

I suspect Trump suing Biden is just some backdoor way of getting into court again, though for what reason I cannot imagine.

I'm guessing the other routes all lie over burned bridges now.

This is just Trump v. Evers redux. Same attorneys. That case was filed in the Wisconsin Supreme Court petitioning for original action. The term "original jurisdiction" means that the court has the authority to hear a case for the first time. A court like the Wisconsin Supreme Court is primarily an appellant court, meaning they mostly just hear appeals of decisions made by lower courts. There are very limited circumstances where they have original jurisdiction.

In this case, the Wisconsin Supreme Court denied the petition and told them they have to file their case in the Wisconsin circuit courts. This is that filing. They filed two cases in two different jurisdictions and then filed a petition with the Wisconsin Supreme Court to consolidate the cases under that court's jurisdiction.

I have heard allegations that they are intentionally targeting black areas into to suppress the votes of minorities. But that isn't really the case. This is a case about absentee ballots. To try to establish standing, they had to pick jurisdictions that had a lot of Biden votes so that invalidating the absentee ballots would make enough of a difference to overturn the election.

They dropped Evers (the Governor) as a plaintiff and added the relevant county and state election boards. They also inexplicably added Biden and Harris as defendants, even though they make no allegations against them. they don't even mention them at all other than naming them as defendants.

It looks like this was just a publicity stunt to create a case that is named "Trump v. Biden".

ETA: The consolidated cases don't go to the Wisconsin Supreme Court. They go to a reserve judge, who has already been appointed by the Wisconsin Supreme Court.

Is that the 'bombshell' I heard about today, where someone who claimed to be an expert at Mandarin interpreted some speech or other as the Chinese gloating about having complete control over our electronic voting systems, and the Democrats pulling out suitcases of votes is because they didn't know about the Chinese fixing it already but they're complicit anyway?

I'm not sure any more as they keep filing these cases as others are dismissed.

Nonsense!
China had nothing to do with it.

According to Roger Stone, it was North Korea that delivered boxes of votes via boat.
(he really did).

I believe the democrats are still not only hopeful but committed to cheating to our faces.

I have NO IDEA what the Supreme Court can do, or if they also are so corrupted they will do whatever they are told to do by those to whom they are beholden (Roberts to the Pope for example) or of which they are afraid (The assassin(s) of Scalia for example).

Trump has a DUTY (Oath of Office) to protect us from internal enemies and external invasion. So, I suspect this blatant law breaking may force him to declare martial law, close down the civil government - up to and including the supreme court if they do not meet their responsibility, and then go through the the voting history state by state with legal audits and forensic investigations, arresting all those who cheated knowingly, and report out or commission another election under military protocols and strictly supervised for ALL the offices up vote and down vote.

Now, if he decided not to use the military there is still the option of achieving a quick election result by turning voting over to the House of Representatives for president and the Senate for VICE President. You can READ THE INSTRUCTIONS FOR THIS IN THE 12TH Amendment of the Constitution. One state on vote only in each chamber. Currently there are 37 Republican States and 13 Democrat States.

I would prefer NON-MILITARY solution, but I Do trust Mr. Trump to do an honest job at following the law and using the power he has wisely. Either way, the military will have to get involved to protect the people and the vote until this is over.

After it is over we need to find the bad people who committed crimes and render appropriate justice.

It's not a typical comment due to its length, but most commenters seem to agree with all the basic points. Got to run.

These folks ever hear of countersuits?

I could be wrong, but I suspect that countersuits would please Trump more than annoy him. I can hear him saying, “they are trying to prevent the evidence from being heard. We filed suits against the people who ran the election, but they are filing suit against me personally. That is exactly what crooks like Biden do. Yadda, yadda, yadda.”

Whack-a-doodle on steroids.

This country is so *********.
While people argue, the national debt soars.
America is about to eat itself.

Yes, and in four years, if those people who loathed Trump are no longer as excited at keeping Trump out of office, the result may be reelection.

With time and with the obstruction of Congress making Biden ineffective, this could happen. I wouldn't place any odds on 2024 at this early date.

So you now agree that Trump was overwhelmingly rejected as I said and would like to discuss a new claim now? Ok. Sure, if all that happens, the result may be re-election. But I rather doubt it as Trump has made himself as deeply, utterly, and completely despised as possible. This is not something that will be easily or soon forgotten.

It's really too soon to know how Trump will change US politics long term.

Of course we hope that people will not forget what a disgusting administration this has been. We also hope that people will not forget the absolutely disgusting and unprecedented attempts by Trump to steal the election he clearly lost.

But are we sure that's what will happen?

The 2016 and 2020 elections have shown that the Trump way of saying the things out loud, as opposed to the 50+ years of Republican MO of using subtle or less subtle dog whistles, is a working electoral strategy.

That can evolve in all kind of ways:
a) the GOP just becomes (stays) Trumpist
b) the GOP splits into a Trumpist party and a somewhat less toxic Conservative party
c) Trump is quickly isolated and relegated to the margins, and the GOP goes back to Bush43 Republicanism
d) the GOP has an epiphany and renounces racism, voter suppression, naked power grabs (the Planet X option).

You can find signs pointing to all of these options in current events (except d obviously).

e) The GOP uses Trumpism as a springboard to sweep up other right-wing marginal views like QAnon.

The GOP cannot easily go back to Bush43 Republicanism, the Democratic Party are already there.

We can never be sure of anything when it comes to the future, can we? We can't know what could happen between now and 2024. Trump could end up in prison. Biden could drop dead. So could Trump. Trump could be caught with man in a bathroom with his pants down doing cocaine. But I can say that I have never in my 6 decades seen an election where more people felt as strongly about NOT wanting a president to be re-elected in such numbers greater than those who did. I mean SEVEN MILLION. That's some strong statement there. That kind of emotion doesn't disappear overnight.

Obama won in 2008 with 9.5 million votes, on lower turnout.

Of course the Trump disgust won't disappear overnight. I inherited my ridiculous Democratic partisanship (ridiculous because I'm not American) from my dad, who became a partisan Democrat when coming of age during Watergate.
I'm sure that for many Americans, Trump will have the effect that they won't vote for any Republican for many years.

But we can't deny the horrifying fact that Trump appeals to many millions of voters. Not despite his racism, misogyny, boorishness, but partly because of those "qualities".

You are right though. We can't know now, for example, what effect the possible judicial problems Trump and his clique will face, will have on the less extreme part of his current electorate.

President Trump's racism, misogyny and boorishness appears to appeal to around 40% of American adults and 45%+ of people who could be bothered to go out and vote. The GOP are working hard to ensure that "45%+ of people who could be bothered to go out and vote" is enough to get the majority in the House and Senate and to secure the presidency.

Anyone who is sickened by President Trump didn't vote for him this time around and, from my perspective, the number of so-called moderate Republicans has turned out to be depressingly low. IMO President Trump's legacy is a hard core of passionate racists, misogynists and boors who will continue to vote Republican and a GOP who are willing to do anything to ensure that minority support doesn't lead to minority representation.

The Trump Coup has already taken over the Supreme Court - as evidenced by the insane decisions about the NY Church/Synagogue and lockdown restrictions.

It's really too soon to know how Trump will change US politics long term.

My hope would be that Biden establishes some sort of “Ministry of Undoing”, looking at every action the Trump administration took and every appointment made and then “undoing” them if appropriate. Then work to provide legislative guardrails to prevent the worst of the excesses going forward. For instance, have the DOJ draft a new memo outlining those specific cases where a sitting President can be prosecuted.

Just like there were “Never Trumpers”, I foresee a growing number of “Never Republicans” - I’m an ex-Republican that count myself in that group. The party has sullied itself so badly that I don’t think there’s any going back. Then again, a Democratic Party completely unopposed and unbridled might be a case of “be careful what you wish for”. I could be wooed by a new party that espoused traditional conservatism, but with a huge dollop of compassion and humanity added to the mix. “Compassionate Conservatism” could finally be a real thing. Or not, but many of the other alternatives could lead us to a very dark place in U.S. history.
