He, and the US, were "lucky" for three years, and then a crisis came, with a vengeance.

I don't think it's a coincidence that the three world leaders who got Covid-19 were Boris Johnson, Bolsonaro and Trump.

Populism is very good at fighting imagined and constructed problems, but not so good in a real crisis without easy solutions.

Curious that the article notes that Russia has built one (in-spite of the problems with guidance and targeting). One imagines that Trump's Russian buddy might have been bragging to him and perhaps even suckered him by calling it hydrosonic. Though, as you note above, the general deficiency of Trumps Supercavitating brain is more than sufficient explanation.

Several rock musicians..including Sir Mick..have made it clear they despise Trump but cannot legally keep him from playhing their songs at his rally..

Generally, a composer and a recording artist assign their copyrights to a music publisher and a record label. "Moral rights" is an implied term that prevents the publisher synchronising the composition and/or recording to something that may be detrimental to the composer/ recording artist, such as a porn movie or a dog food advertisement. However from the 90's most contracts have moral rights waivers allows the publisher and/or record label to do that. It really depends on the exact wording of the waiver in the contract.

I imagine, (but don't know) these recordings are allowed to be played at Trump events because there are moral rights waivers in the assignment contracts. I assume the music publisher or record label is still charging a performance fee to Trump which the composer/ recording artist eventually gets a percentage, to pay off advances they have received.

"The claim says the Trump campaign played both Rockin' In The Free World and Devil's Sidewalk at the Tulsa rally.

It says the campaign "does not now have, and did not at the time of the Tulsa rally, have a licence or [Young]'s permission to play the two songs at any public political event".

If the event company or other contractor has an ASCAP, BMG, or other similar license, the artist can't do a whole lot about it.

As long as someone with the rights either presses the play button on the device playing the songs (or exercised some kind of selection approval authority), they are covered.

I have worked many a small venue under the table and thankfully never been given a notice of violation. But I live in a small market with no giant media companies around.
