I’ve decided that since Joe Biden can be president-elect, I too shall identify as president-elect

After spending lots of time on social media that's the most sophisticated defense of Trump's behavior I've heard so far. Trump's not as bad as you think he is because Congress and the courts or his advisors will stop his excesses.

I mentioned this movie a lot but there's a scene in the Cold War docu-drama 13 Days about the Cuban Missile Crisis.

President Kennedy: Dean, how does this all play out?
Dean Acheson: Your first step Sir, will be to demand that the Soviet withdraw the missiles within 12 to 24 hours. They will refuse. When they do you will order the strikes, followed by the invasion [of Cuba]. They will resist and be overrun. They will retaliate against another target somewhere else in the world, most likely Berlin. We will honor our treaty commitments and resist them there, defeating them per our plans.
President Kennedy: Those plans call for the use of nuclear weapons.
Dean Acheson: *Says nothing.*
President Kennedy: What's the next step?
Dean Acheson: Hopefully cooler heads will prevail before the next step.

*Later in private, President Kennedy talks to his brother Bobby and Special Assistant to the President Ken O'Donnell*

Ken O'Donnell: Yah know call me Irish but I don't believe in cooler heads prevailing.

I feel like that's how the Right is treating Trump, with this vague idea that if he gets to bad some vague, undefined force will just "handle it."

Think of this as the grieving process stages:

Denial ... Anger ... Bargaining ... Depression ... Acceptance.

He's in denial: he couldn't have lost; the SCOTUS will make him king. He has anger mixing in. Bargaining might consist of 'if other people had done better'. Usually it's the grieving person who obsesses about 'if only I had'.

I suspect then he'll never move past depression into acceptance. Or maybe moving out of the WH will be a modified version of acceptance.

That will be it. It's like after one has sat an important exam: some people instantly forget about it, others obsess over what marks they might have tallied up by going over each of the questions one by one. They give themselves the benefit of a doubt, scoring themselves the maximum points and smugly noting how everybody is saying how hard that exam was, whilst you thought it easy.

Trump is calculating. He thought if he plays up his spell of Covid19 with fancy press conferences and showing people how tough he is to overcome it, and what's more he went out and met the crowds, that's a few thousand votes in his favour. There were those rallies when he was sure his Dad dancing would endear the crowds. Yes, in his mind, he had it all sewn up.

But then the exam results day came through. A big fat FAIL. The bloody bastards! Added it all up wrong! He just knows he ACED it!!! He's going to appeal. He's going to get it re-marked. He's got the Proud Boys standing back and on stand by. He's got Guiliani, he's got Barr, he's got Eric and Don Jnr. He's got Fox News. He wuz robbed.

Next comes the anger.

Actually, you identify as a washed-up never-was currently relegated to "starring" in David A. R. White christian propaganda movies.

I expect he's already gotten to the anger part.

Get the pop corn in.

Mary Trump says her Uncle Donald is a cruel vindictive man and I believe her. He will punish the American people as an act of revenge, simply because he can.

Well, somebody once said (sorry, I fail to remember who):

People want to be loved.
If they can't be loved, they want to be respected.
If they can't be respected, they want to be feared.
If they can't be feared, they want to be despised.

....

I think Trump fits into this nicely.

Pompeo sounds like a hostage telling the press how well he's being treated by his torturers.
This is dangerous stuff and I'm not sure he believes what he's saying. The man will be out of a job in two and a half months. He should have kept his damn mouth shut. If he has future political aspirations, which I think he does, this will come back to bite him in the ass.
Maybe, maybe not.

His association with the Trump administration would have destroyed any chance of being seen as a 'moderate' republican. So if he does have future plans, he probably thinks he had to go the whole Trump.

Huh. So Oregon is one big voting fraud, eh?
The current, fundamental argument by the Trump-lovers is that every state's voting system is corrupt. That's the only way they can possibly justify the idea that tens of thousands of votes across what ended up being the swing states were falsified by Democrats (while Republican poll watchers looked on of course - probably RINOs) in order to win the presidential election. It's either a vast, nationwide conspiracy or Trump and his pissant followers are entirely full of ****.

Er, how? That's a gain of about 360,000 votes for Biden. How many votes are still outstanding?

I'm not saying you're wrong. I don't know how many votes are uncounted and where, but 300k sounds high to me.

New York City alone has more than 700,000 absentee ballots. They started counting them today.

California estimates it still has some 2,000,000 ballots to count.

You misquoted. "This is dangerous stuff and I'm not sure he believes what he's saying," is what Capt. Swoop said, not me.

The Dems will use that quote against him and ridicule him for it as Trump will not have a transition into a second term. Besides, he's already gone the whole Trump. He didn't have to hand Dems a great line to use against him. I highly doubt Trump would be elected if he ran again considering that he got his ass whooped this time.
