2020 Presidential Election part 2

Indeed, knowledge about original is required to fully appreciate parody.
Here: Downfall - Hitler's Outrage (Original Subtitles, Extended Length)

It's funny. The first time I saw a parody was "Hiter's FRC Team Stinks". FRC is First Robotics Competition, and this specific parody was about Hitler as coach of a losing First Robotics Team. It didn't occur to me that it was part of a whole genre of Downfall parodies. And I didn't even know what movie it came from. I just thought it was an hilarious parody of First Robotics.

I eventually figured out that there were lots and lots of such parodies, and figured out what movie it was from. When I had a chance to see the movie, I was a little bit reluctant to watch it, because I thought it might ruin the parodies for me.

It didn't. It was a really great movie, and very historically accurate. And the parodies are still just as funny.

Including the one I saw already of Trump. I'm sure there will be several on youtube by this evening.

I agree that Trump had an easy win if he had simply put any effort into tackling the pandemic. He didn’t even have to be successful, just the appearance of effort.

He's a moderate to conservative Democrat. This guy took the train 5 days a week for 36 years. He really is an every day Joe. He is use to rubbing shoulders with the riff raff.

One may not like his politics but it's very hard not to like him as a human being.

Exactly the opposite of Trump. I absolutely despised Trump's policies, but I hated him as a human being ten times more. In all my life, I've never encountered a more despicable character than Trump. Never ever have I seen anyone more self centered. Never have I encountered a more dishonest person. It's not that Trump intends to lie. It's just that the truth and the facts are totally irrelevant to him. So he says only what he thinks is self serving.

I think back to this last year and I truly believe this. Trump could have easily won this election in a landslide. COVID politically could have given him the election. All he had to do was take it seriously and actually lead. Lead the country against an invisible foe.

But Trump is lazy and absolutely refuses to be second chair to scientists and a disease. All he ever did was blame everyone and everything else. He could have rallied the nation. Instead, he held rallies for nutjobs who worshipped at his feet.

IMO nothing hits the mark truer than the observation that Trump is a narcissist. It explains everything anyone needs to know about him, and provides the simplest explanation why he should never be allowed to occupy a position of power.

And to be honest, it's kept me from hating him. I despise what he does, and I'm not above mocking him, but I actually pity him. He'll never be a happy man.

I didn't see that. But even the best have off nights. I generally find him funny, but humor is subjective.

Must have been an off night then as even the ‘laugh hysterically at anything’ crowd was straining out a nervous, forced chuckle. Seriously, it was an absolute car crash. I mean Maher’s a dreadful interviewer since he interrupts and dominates the conversation but even given that...

Not sure I get the Mike Tyson/Joe Biden thing. With you on the Trump comparison though.

Trump is Tyson in that metaphor.

The comparison I was trying to make was, in theory, a Republican Incumbent President (to say nothing of one who bangs porn stars and wants a Space Force) when it comes to a race in Georgia shouldn't even be sweating it, and if it's potentially coming down to military votes he should double not sweat it.

He shouldn't just win it, but win it easy. Even if he squeaks by with a margins of error victory that's shameful.

This is an interesting comment, because he thinks he did that. Heck, he thinks he made superhuman effort.

If I were in such a position, and I wanted to make things appear like that, I would be seen every day talking with my advisors, like Fauci, and Birx, and Redfield. I would be sure to be seen listening them and convening with them and asking, "What can I do?", and then signing executive orders to make that happen.

In Trump's mind, standing up at the press conferences, and overriding his best advisors, was actually his way of looking strong.

Which is why I wouldn't vote for him. Well, I wouldn't have voted for him anyway, but it was his pandemic handling that made it so personal for me. I really wanted this guy out of office, in a way that I've never wanted any other president out, and that came from the way he handled the pandemic back in February. Or should I say the way he ignored it except for his China ban?

He was never more than a marketer, and he did some marketing on his pandemic response, so he thinks he did amazing things, and is probably genuinely baffled why we weren't impressed.

I hereby reaffirm my prediction of a Trump victory.

To be clear, I expect Trump to still be in office a year from now and I expect a leftist meltdown of previously unseen proportions.

I believe through recounts, court challenges, supreme court decision(s), exposed fraud, etc. - he will ultimately stay in office.

Ah I see there's one of them peaking out from under the rock to see if it's safe to try and trigger the libs again.

We should play poker sometime.

Well, if the first part of your prediction comes true, the second part will certainly also come true.

I'm guessing you wouldn't accept an avatar bet on your prediction?

Yep, huge opportunity. The kind of situation that allows Presidents to show their leadership skills.

And that's what he did - show his leadership skills. Or lack thereof.

And denial is a river in Egypt...
