2020 Presidential Election part 2

Don't know about y'all, but my response to the whining is "He lost, get over it."

I see some republicans on Twitter who are resolved to the loss, but are now trying the, "68 million people voted for him, you need be nice to them."

I won't quite get to the point of "**** your Feelings" but I'm thinking it.

Of course, we're going to be nice to them! We'll welcome them with open arms right after they get back from the Re-education camps.

The federal debt and deficit is going to be whined about from the Right again now. I suspect shutdowns will happen because of it

Didn't Al Franken win due to a recount? But the margin was even closer than what we are seeing at least in PA (and that margin should grow).

Realistically, PA is all that matters.

Yes. Franken was behind at the end of the first count, but ahead at the end of the recount, which is what matters. That was really a model for how to do a recount, too. I heard a couple of different Republicans blast that recount Wednesday morning, complaining about some Franken votes mysteriously found in a car to put Franken over the top. They were using as an example of how Democrats stole elections, and how they would try to do the same thing this year with the President.

It was hogwash for a couple of reasons. One is that the envelope in question was very obviously legitimate. The other is that the margin of victory was greater than the size of the envelope. However, their guy lost, so it must have been fraud.

For those who don't remember it, they actually posted images on line of every single ballot that was disputed. It was so transparent, and really above board. Sure, some Republicans say they were robbed, but they weren't.

Like I said even if Trump pulls off this (at this point meaningless win) the fact that this is even a question is insane enough.

If Mike Tyson is fighting a wheelchair-bound deaf blind thalidomide baby the fight shouldn't go to a split decision.

Not sure I get the Mike Tyson/Joe Biden thing. With you on the Trump comparison though.

I always worry about shenanigans. But if they happen what makes Republicans think that if they do happen, they are limited to Democrats?

I wonder if Biden’s sort of bland, non-threatening manner will be a plus or minus going forward (if he makes it past all the legal challenges Trump threatens.) He’s gone out of his way not to be divisive, to stick to a positive message. I’m not sure it will help, but I hope it doesn’t hurt. I can do without a lot of toxic personal dynamics but some people like that aspect of politics; it’s something they can understand and relate to. It energized them.

Me too. I wanted him to run for President. Liberal, sharp, funny.

Really? He was on Bill Maher’s show the other night and was absolutely dreadful - painful to watch. Maher didn’t help as he kept interrupting him but he was shocking. Seemed drunk, all slurry and made several’jokes’ that were dreadfully delivered and unfunny and then had to explain them thereby killing them even more dead.

Also at least Georgia has said at least a sizeable percent of votes still pending are military, which obviously often have to vote from remote locations and whose votes are often the last to arrive.

Which is literally any other year could maybe tip a very, very tight race for the Republican candidate but well...

Obviously those 41% are the troops who were captured. Donald doesn't like them.

Would be nice if some electors actually valued decency and democracy and were so appalled by Trumps attempted "stop counting" fraud that they actually voted for Biden...

Going back a bit, the above was posted when a 269-269 tie was a possible outcome. Now, it looks possible that it will be as many as 306 for Biden.

When we were discussing it, I called it a fantasy, one that I had indulged myself. However, if, once all the recounts and lawsuits are done, it turns out that there is no possibility that a faithless elector can influence the outcome, I think the possibility that rambaldi mentioned is very real. I doubt they will vote for Biden, but there could be one or more who votes for someone other than Trump.

Last time around, there were a total of seven faithless electors. I would have to look up to see how many were Republicans, but I remember that Colin Powell received three electoral votes in the 2016 election.
