2020 Presidential Election part 2

Here's a question...

What is happening in North Carolina? People have been paying so much attention to the results in Georgia and Pennsylvania that North Carolina has been ignored, like a salad at a Trump dinner.

According to google, Trump leads there by about 1.4%, but they are still only at 94% reporting. Is there a chance of another state shifting to Biden as mail-in and provisional votes are counted? Or is the vote gap just too great?

(I know that Biden wouldn't need North Carolina if he has the other states, but the bigger the loss by Trump, the better it is for the U.S., and the more cushion that they have in case of problems with recounts, etc.)

NC doesn't seem to update their numbers as often as some other states which makes it less interesting for the "breaking news" crowd.

I'm OK with that. But it would be a satisfying justice if he left feet first out of a top floor window, in yet another "tragic accident".

Well when he begins to be medically unfiit - that's quite possible

Regarding "What is going on with North Carolina"

It doesn't come up a lot because North Carolina is rarely a swing state and almost never a potential tipping point one so it doesn't really matter, but it has a very long voting window. The cutoff for ballots to be received as long as they are postmarked by Election Day is November 12, almost a week away which is one of (if not the) longest voting windows in the country.

Anybody else think the White House is a lot like the movie "Downfall" at this moment?

I've only seen excerpts from it, but I gather that Trump does shout a lot. As loud as Hitler?

Which is fine. We get all wrapped up in maps that turn red and blue on election night or, this year, afterwards, but those are really just estimates and projections.

I watched the Wisconsin chief election official (don't remember if it was the Secretary of State or some other title) on TV Wednesday morning, talking after the state had been called for Biden. She emphasized repeatedly that the numbers you see are strictly unofficial. Wisconsin has a process whereby those reported vote totals are certified and, she emphasized, that process takes a while.

And even after they are certified, there is an opportunity for a recount, which will almost certainly happen, and challenges to the vote. All states have something like this built in. So, I think it's appropriate to not start saying "President-elect Biden" until there are truly certified election results. In some ways it's just being pedantic about things, but that's appropriate for an election.

In normal years, it becomes so obvious that one candidate is going to win that the other candidate makes a public concession, and at that point people start talking about the other as President-elect. That isn't going to happen, because Trump is Trump, so waiting for certified totals and the end of active litigation just makes sense.

I suspect it [meltdowns] would likely happen in private to his aides, where several such meltdowns have (ALLEGEDLY!) happened over the last four years.

In future, someone will make movie and reference that memetic scene from Downfall with Trump instead.

Which group are you [Skeptic Tank] in?

He is neonazi, so you can guess. ;)

It’s not surprising imo. R voters simply didn’t vote by mail. That’s all that’s left to count.

There is meme for that too.

He couldn't have possibly dreamed of a better outcome.

Disagree. Very small Trump lead would be best outcome for him.

That doesn't "fix" the EC, it makes it redundant- it's a smaller reflection of the nationwide popular vote, so what's the point in having it at all? Either get rid of the thing altogether, or leave it alone and admit that states are people too.
Because it is easier to do that kind of shenanigans than removing EC.

CNN reports that FoxNews has circulated a memo directing all its talking heads not to use the term "President-Elect" for Biden, ostensibly because of the outstanding legal protests.

Most pathetic type of butthurt snowflake is republican butthurt snowflake.

Trump Tweets

“Philadelpiha has got a rotten history on election integrity.” @Varneyco
@FoxBusiness

I loved this:

"Andrew Bates, the director of rapid response for Joe Biden’s campaign, was asked by Fox News about reports that Donald Trump does not intend to concede if he is declared the loser in the presidential race.

“As we said on July 19th, the American people will decide this election,” Bates said. “And the United States government is perfectly capable of escorting trespassers out of the White House.”

Now that I would certainly pay to see :)

//Total Hijack//

And yet again the Tom Clancy Ryanverse plotline where Jack Ryan becomes President parallels real life. There's a subplot in that plotline where a sleazy former VP (who is so Ted Kennedy his name might as well be Ked Tennedy) claims Jack Ryan is not the President and he really is and launches a lawsuit.

President Ryan calls a press conference to address the nation and afterward is talking to one of his cabinet ministers when the following exchange takes place (paraphrased from memory.)

President Ryan: "Well all things considered I think that went pretty well."
Cabinet Member: "Yes, except for one thing you didn't notice."
President Ryan: "What's that?"
Cabinet Member: "They all called you Mr. Ryan, not Mr. President."

BTW this subplot ends in one of the stupidest moments in fiction. A Federal Judge throws out the lawsuit because the lawsuit was brought against "Jack Ryan, President of the United States" therefore admitting in the lawsuit that Jack Ryan is the President because apparently "Miracle on 34th Street" is legal precedent in this universe.

I can only assume that there will be several youtube parodies available before the end of the year.

Rudy Giuliani can play the role of Steiner, the one who was supposed to do something to save the day. Don Jr. can inform Der Fuhrer that the expected lawsuit didn't happen. Ivanka can be Eva Braun, with Kayleigh McEnany (sp?) being the crying woman in the hallway.

Now I am not one for hero worship. I don't believe in it. But today I read about someone I had never heard of before - or was just so much background noise - but when I read and realised what this person had achieved, tears came to my eyes.

Step forward...

Based on number and location of where the remaining votes are coming from Nate Silver has been saying Trump will win NC.

Right now, he is obviously in denial. I wonder what the next stage, bargaining, and the remaining three stages after that will look like.

Trump is going to one of his resorts to play golf at some point in December and just never come back to the White House. There will be no grand exit. He will simply rack up the last few million he can siphon out of the federal government by booking in the largest possible set of rooms for his entourage and finish out his term playing golf and telling the GOP to **** off since they didn't help him steal the election.

He can sign his own pardon on New Year's Day and his kids will just have that slow realization that there are no more pardons coming.
