Riots, looting, vandalism, etc.

I see.
It seems to me that your argument boils down to justifying the rioting, looting, and ongoing destruction of my city is justified because the police- while shooting a man coming at them with a knife- one whom they had repeatedly warned while backing away from- used "too many bullets" (although an exact determination of how many bullets is not too many is yet to be made)

I reject that out of hand. Anyone participating in any kind of mayhem stemming from this incident is just opportunistically partaking in the joy of a mob mentality for its' own sake- and deserves only the respect attributable to one doing that, which is very little.

Close, but not quite. I don't justify rioting, nor did I say so. I expect it. I understand it. But whether or not people riot, opportunisticly or otherwise, has nothing to do with handwaving away excessive violence by police.

As I've said, the only guns I've had pointed at me were by police, and more than a couple times, and in different municipalities. Never was I armed or threatening. Based on my experience, and nationwide data, I believe police in general are trigger-happy. This will predictably cause unrest from the evident hundreds of thousands with similar experience.

Fraternal Order of Police, the nation's largest cop group, falsely claimed that Philly cops rescued a child wandering the riots alone and without shoes.

Turns out the kid was taken out of his parent's car by the cops after they smashed out the windows and viciously beat the driver. There's video footage of the cops swarming the car and bashing the driver who doesn't seem to be doing anything aggressive and was likely just unlucky to be in the path of the police riot.

Cops will literally beat you senseless and use your kid for copaganda. They have since deleted this lie after being exposed.

"Ouch. That's gotta hurt".

-victims, cops, and all the lawyers, probably

I look directly at the officer speaking with me, I communicate as clearly as I can in a calm manner. I give them what they want with no attitude, regardless of the way they act.

And that can still get you shot.

Complying with an officers demands can get you shot.
Pleading for your life can get you shot.

Not yet.

If the police officer says,"Drop your gun and put your hands up!".
Should you,

A. Get on your knees
B. Plead for your life
C. Put your hands up
D. Drop your gun and put your hands up

Ask Daniel Shaver. Actually, ask his survivors.

Are police frequently let off on this basis? I don't recall it being an issue in any of the cases I've read.
I learned of this during a discussion about Breonna Taylor’s shooting, where this indeed was a factor. The bullet that killed her could not forensically be matched to any of the police weapons.

32 shots were fired by the police.

What a ******* bad person.

Admittedly, I don't know a lot about Black culture

Cutting you off here because, trust me, that was completely obvious. You do seem to have a few stereotypes jingling round in your head, and that's about it.

Meanwhile, Chuck Modi, among others, has been covering the police's wild overreaction to the protests in DC, this time sparked by a cop who apparently ran over Karon Hylton for the crime of riding a moped without a helmet (ETA: Still preliminary reporting, with the usual caveats).

Quick reminder - often when you see large riots of non-cops, they're sparked by cops going berserk and attacking protestors, as well as random people passing by.

New footage shows much more clearly the shooting of Jay Danielson in Portland.

Video shows clearly that Jay charged Reinoehl armed with bear spray in one hand, a baton in the other. Danielson was charging forward while spraying the mace and brandishing an asp baton when Reinoehl opened fire. The first shot hit and destroyed the can of mace, and the second shot struck Danielson in the torso and inflicted a fatal wound.

Looks like a clean shoot to me. Had Reinoehl not been killed by federal agents during an extremely questionable "arrest" attempt, I suspect he could have successfully argued self defense in court.

given the total silence from the Marshalls about the shooting, I think it is fair to assume that the "arrest" was not above board.

This one gets murkier for me on every turn.

Reinoehl clearly has a gun drawn before Danielson approaches him, but you can hear 'we got him' and 'he maced me', apparently referring to an earlier or at least offscreen incident. Danielson runs up and sprays bear spray, and immediately the can is hit. Unless Reinoehl was a wild west quick draw marksman, that gun was out and ready to fire before Danielson was any kind of threat. That makes Reinoehl the brandisher and Danielson the defender.

Reinoehl is across the street , moving to the middle of the street as the altercation starts. Danielson leaves the opposite sidewalk and moves towards him only after the gun is out. But they were walking close together before Reinoehl ducked in the garage?

Black children have been shot and killed by the police for less.

I’m not sure how you watch a video of one guy charging towards another and think the former is the “defender”.

If one guy has a gun out and drawn before any other movement, what is he defending himself from? Been watching Minority Report, have you?

Reinoehl is very clearly moving backwards away from Danielson as Danielson walks towards him and then charges at him.

Just because Reinoehl might have already had his gun drawn doesn’t mean he doesn’t have the right to defend himself from an aggressor.

It kind of does. If you have a gun out before your life is imminently threatened, you are pretty much the bad guy that others are defending themselves from, or trying to disarm.
