All he has to do is get Pence infected with coronavirus, name Ivanka VP and...a lot of things...and 2022 Ivanka president. Congress might be involved. Pelosi might me VP.

Just a note now there's only a few days to organise it:

Can all of you lot of non-Trump Yanks please talk to your local TV station and demand that they have a camera on Trump all of election night.

Make sure you capture the slow realisation by that fat orange **** when it finally starts to sink in that he's now the biggest loser, thrown out by the people who elected him, and that his days of fame and pretend fortune are over.

Dead and buried.

Me too. Not sure who it's supposed to appeal to. I'm pretty sure people younger than myself were rolling their eyes at calls to "pokemon-go to the polls" in 2016.

I suppose if you have nothing substantial to offer young people, pandering is all that's left. Not that it matters much, since young people don't really vote.

I thought Democats was funny. As did my cat loving 23 and 21 year old kids. Both of whom voted. It's a refreshing alternative to "black mobs are going to burn down your suburbs".

I've asked around and no-one is preparing to burn down my suburb. But I am afraid of some of the cats. So, I guess I'll have to vote Biden to feel safe.

Funny, in Norway all I need is my credit card (or passport). Why do you think this is not good enough?

Much the same here (Ireland), any photographic ID will do, along with a bank account or credit union account which shows your name and address. Or if you don't have that, a cheque book, credit/debit card or birth/marriage cert along with a letter addressed to you.

And as somebody who has worked as polling clerk in elections, where possible the election authorities try to keep poll officers local so that they know most of the people who'll be voting. I rarely needed ID to check if a person was eligible to vote at my station.

Here in Czech Republic we have mandatory personal ID. You can use either that or passport. Any elections take 24 hours, and it's one station for about 1000 people. If you want to vote in place different to where you supposed to, you have to ask ahead, and get special ID for that. Otherwise there is no registration or nothing.
Results are usually known within hours, as every station has just about 1000 votes to process. Each station comittee is about 10 people.
There is some form of mail voting, but I think it's only for people currently abroad.

Clinton also lost Pennsylvania due to poor turn out by Black voters. That doesn't seem to be much of a problem this year.

I think a lot of black voters bitterly regret their staying home in 2016, realise it was a really stupid move.

In the southern USA, any ID that shows you with a darker skin will be considered invalid. You guys really don't seem to get the point of US voter ID!

A couple of days ago we were talking about polls and the difficulty of conducting polls in the modern era. Here's a story that addresses that:

https://www.nationalreview.com/2020/10/the-pollster-who-thinks-trump-is-ahead/

It's from National Review, and it's a pro-Trump piece. i don't post it to say that I agree with its message that Trump is going to win and that all the other polls are wrong. I just post it because it happens to be a timely piece that talks about the problems of taking polls, and how to try to compensate for those problems. In particular, there's a mention of "weighting".

The message of that piece, and its placement in NR, is that Trump fans shouldn't despair because of course the one poll that shows Trump winning is probably right. My message isn't that message, but it is that people should understand that when they see a poll, it isn't really just a case of asking a certain number of people and counting the results.

As for what's really happening and who is really "ahead"? I feel like Biden, but don't take anything for granted. Four years ago, I was sure Hillary was going to win until the weekend before the election, and I was still confident until it was clear the Florida had gone into the red column, and I still thought Hillary had a chance at 10:00 that night. So, I'm trying to avoid overconfidence.

As an aside, I mentioned states "going red". How did that become a thing? I checked it out on youtube. Prior to 1996, the different networks used different colors, and not always the same from year to year. In 1996, all three networks used red for Republican, and it has been that way ever since. At least by 2004, I heard people talking about "red states". Personally, I don't like it. I'm not sure why. It just seems to make it like it really is a characteristic of the state, as opposed to how they voted this year. I'd like to see some of the TV coverage switch the colors, but I doubt they will. It has become part of the culture. People now expect red to be for Republicans.

Funny, and you only have two parties. We have usually more than 5 in parliament. And the colors are quite suggestive .. we still have communistic party, so that one is red, obviously. Old conservative party is blue, social party is orange, christian black, greens are well .. green.
But now lot of the old parties are gone and new push in .. they are running out of colors ! And it's really just consensus in media to assign these colors. So we have light blue, dark green-blue, yellow, brown is no-no. And it's complete mess.

Absolutely. Trump's reaction to BLM, Charlottesville, the Proud Bois, etc. has really motivated black voters.

I have seen Trump time after time after time being presented with an opportunity to denounce White Supremacists and he won't do it. He'll hem and haw and yet he never condemns it.

He's mentioned his son as a successor. Weee!

I imagine white male MAGA troopers like Tucker Carlson and Charlie Kirk are going to be the next Donald Trump in a few decades. I can see them easily taking advantage of the white anxiety in this country on a mainstream political platform.

Maybe. Tucker is going to have a harder time portraying sort of the every man facade that Trump successfully managed. First, Tucker is much better educated. He's not a business man, he is a pundit and known for wearing bow ties. Trump appealed very much to the white working class because despite not really being working class because Trump is poorly educated con man. He talks out of his ass. He's a salesman. Tucker is not a salesman.

Perhaps but their kind have a shelf life. The portion of the white population experiencing this anxiety is shrinking.

New format for the upcoming debate:

From: CTV News
Former U.S. Vice President Joe Biden and U.S. President Donald Trump will have their microphones muted during portions of the second and final presidential debate on Thursday night, the Commission on Presidential Debates announced on Monday...The change is sure to anger the Trump and his campaign, who have signalled that any changes to the procedures will be unacceptable to them....

I am a bit surprised that they are going ahead with an in-person debate. (I know Trump has already had Covid-19 and probably wouldn't be infectious himself, but there are probably many Trump minions who might have been infected since then who might be in attendance.)

Now we will just have to see if Stubby McBonespurs drops out.
