The irony is it's 2020. The world is connected enough that the President can be isolated (in a medical sense) while still remaining as connected and informed.

Sitting in the Oval Office having to "President" via telegram would have sucked. Trump doesn't have that problem.

But why doesn't he get tested? If he tests positive, the people he has come into contact with can get contact traced. That you yourself don't have any symptoms is not an argument for not getting tested unless tests are in short supply.

This was exactly the issue - this story was from back in March, when testing wasn't easily available. Trudeau opted for (and actually followed through on) two weeks of isolation rather than jump himself to the top of the testing list. As far as I know, there were no other cases of COVID traced to his wife's infection. Quite a notable contrast, between what Trudeau accomplished at the very start of this pandemic, when we really didn't know what was going on, as compared to Trump's superspreader event this month, eight months or so into this pandemic, when everyone with any common sense knows what to do to limit the spread of the virus.

“Sometimes, I’d be in groups of, for instance, Gold Star families. I met with Gold Star families. I didn’t want to cancel that,” he said. “But they all came in, and they all talk about their son and daughter and father. And, you know, they all came up to me, and they tell me a story.”

He said the family members would approach him to “tell me a story about, ‘My son, sir, was in Iraq.’ Or, ‘He was in Afghanistan.’ And, ‘Sir, he did this, and he did that, and then he charged in order to save his friends.’ And, ‘Yes, sir, he was killed, but he saved his friends. He’s so brave, sir.’”
