All I can say about the Trump Presidency is that I hope we wake up from what has become a national nightmare. I didn't think it could get this bad. In 2016, I thought, "well, I didn't vote for him but how bad could it be?" Yeeesh. And I'm not talking about a specific policy or action that Trump has done. Reality is he hasn't done much at all and what little he has done has been mostly disastrous. I'm talking more about the actual State of the Union as it stands on October 7, 2020. I've never experienced my country like it is right now. I've had long time friends, colleagues, mentors and other acquaintances turn into (reveal themselves as?) hateful people. I've never personally lived through so much division and outright hate for "the other side." I've never seen such callousness for human life as we've seen in the response to the Covid pandemic. I've never felt so . . . ashamed, maybe? That's close enough. I've never felt so ashamed to be an American.

The Trump era needs to end. Period.

My greatest fear is the damage has already been done.

100% agree. I'm embarrassed to be an American right now and have been for the last four years. Every single time I've been to Europe during Trump's administration, I've had people guardedly ask me about him and you can see the relief in their eyes when I express my disgust for him. It's as if they're happy to know that at least one American isn't freaking crazy.

I don't like talking politics in person, and believe in firmly seizing control of a tricky conversation and then burning it to the waterline.
 
Trumps video blames China for covid all over the world and he threatened to "make them pay".

But they had to be destroyed by superior external forces and suffer millions of casualties, be divided, and lose much of their territory. Not a helpful analogy, as far as I'm concerned.

I'm hard pressed to think of a reason why Moscow would do that. It's bad for Mitch, Trump and the GOP.

Not quite. If it is a special election to replace a Senator who didn't fill out their term, the the new Senator takes his/her seat as soon as the Secretary of State for that state certifies the election. Such is the case in 2020, for example, in Arizona where the race is to replace the deceased John McCain.

One can imagine some political hi-jinks where the winner of the election is from a different party than the Secretary of State; the latter could postpone the certification.

Yep. The phrase "out of control deficit" which was on every talking points list throughout Obama's term in office but which has been banished the last four years will - all of a sudden - reappear on every GOPer's lips.
