Trump and Melania test positive test positive for Covid 19

Let's also note that the pandemic has not gone political in any other western country except Brazil and USA.

In Europe, in Canada, in Australia, in Japan and Korea, etc, we're in this **** together.

You guys have even made wearing masks political!

No takers on what Biden would have done differently? Did the "xenophobe" remark he made seal it for you?

It's impossible to say exactly what Joe Biden would have done but looking at other developed countries could give a clue.

Don't look at the UK though, our Prime Minister, a President Trump Lite, and his administration have handled Covid-19 as badly as in the US and made a lot of the same mistakes, namely:

  • Failing to take decisive action to control domestic infection
  • Sending mixed, contradictory and unhelpful messages so the public weren't clear on what to do
  • Failing to secure and distribute adequate quantities of PPE
  • Lifting restrictions too early
  • Prioritising the economy over public health
  • Failing to implement an adequate Test and Trace system

When I was being trained as a scientist I was taught to perform new experiments to try to disprove my pet theories, not to try to prove them. I hope I fulfilled that commitment in my subsequent career. Most other scientists I observed had the same commitment.

Not only that, the process of peer review demands that others attempt to critically tear your theories apart.

Lest you think this is some kind of purely partisan issue, let me say the following (Note I only speak for myself):

Remember all those other Republicans who ran for Presidency in 2016 against Trump? Remember them? There were quite a few.

ANY one of those guys would have done an infinitely better job than the clownshoe that is in office right now.

For all his many, many, many faults George W. Bush pushed hard for greater pandemic response plans.

Bush actually read a book about history and learned from it. After reading about the 1918 Spanish Flu Bush became almost obsessed with how America would fair in a pandemic.

Listen to Bush... in 2005.

"A pandemic is a lot like a forest fire. If caught early it might be extinguished with limited damage. If allowed to smolder, undetected, it can grow to an inferno that can spread quickly beyond our ability to control it.

To respond to a pandemic, we need medical personnel and adequate supplies of equipment. In a pandemic, everything from syringes to hospital beds, respirators masks and protective equipment would be in short supply.

If a pandemic strikes, our country must have a surge capacity in place that will allow us to bring a new vaccine on line quickly and manufacture enough to immunize every American against the pandemic strain."

Through all of it.

Not once did they say it was nothing to worry about and that it would be gone by April.

Can you find any western leader that lied and downplayed the pandemic to their citizens like Trump did?

And if you don't believe the Americans are fragile, why are you saying they would have panicked if Trump had told the truth? No one in other countries did.

Let's be realistic, Norway has just over half the population of New York City. You can't compare the Covid response in Norway to that of the US. The population numbers are vastly different.

I'm sure Norway has done a stand up job but likely was not targeted. Many in the US believe this was a direct result of the trade war with China.

Perhaps you misunderstand our system of Government. The states here are controlled by their respective elected Governors. President Trump's job was and is to support those Governors and provide whatever they need to battle this virus. He has done so. In fact he was praised by some of those Governors who are Democrats.

I didn't really specify my own country. I'm more than happy to compare USA and EU as a whole, or even as individual countries.

And we're not talking about the whole response, are we? We're talking about how our leaders behaved. What they told us and how they treated us.

So, what other western leaders lied about and downplayed the pandemic like Trump did? I'm sure it's a hard question for you to answer.

As for your conspiracy theory, I will note that Trump was handwaving away cases numbering in the hundreds when the pandemic was ravaging Italy.

Shame you didn't learn anything from that like the rest of Europe did. You could have saved thousands of lives.

Dude, come on. Many in the U.S. believe in the healing power of crystals, but their crazy ass thoughts don't count either.

No, I understand your system of government and watched horrified as your President used vital supplies as bargaining chips to get compliments from governors, lambasted governors for taking the kinds of steps that would help to control the spread of Covid-19, did nothing to address shortages in key supplies until far too late.

Of course a pandemic doesn't respect state borders and that's exactly why a clear national message accompanied by action would have helped. Instead President Trump did nothing useful and spread lies and disinformation.

Aaaand trolling and lying for Jesus Fuhrer continues.

Dredging in bovine manure of his argument, it seems his line of defense is like this:

USA just couldn't do better, it is impossible. Comparisons with similar first world countries that fared way, way better do not count because of *insert wild handwave*... um... reasons.

Yes? Good on him. What's your point? Doesn't this just disprove your conspiracy theory?

Perhaps he should have helped his own country too. Italy got the pandemic under control and flattened the curve. USA passed them in deaths per capita quite a while ago.

But back to the topic you're trying to squirm your way out of, do you think the Italian government downplayed the pandemic? Do you think their leaders told them it would disappear on its own, like a miracle?

1. We have so many cases because there were many flights that came into New York from China before the travel restrictions were in place. If you recall China banned flights within their own Country yet were happy to send folks to the US.

2. President Trump has done well in an unprecedented situation. But he was called "xenophobe" by Democrats and ridiculed early on for his decision to protect the US with travel restrictions. The President is not to blame for the failures of individual state Governors. After all it was not President Trump who placed Covid patients in nursing homes in New York and other states.

Do you feel Biden would have done a better job? If so how?
Hate to burst your balloon/unreality bubble but the genetic evidence is that most of the COVID-19 cases in NYC (and much of the rest of the country) came from Europe (after it arrived in Europe from China). And Trump’s incredibly leaky and much delayed limited travel ban from Europe was too late to help. IMO Trump selected China first because a leaky banning of Chinese travel looked much better to his racist supporters than a leaky banning of British travel.

Trump also repeatedly refused to help the states fight COVID-19 despite their repeatedly pleas to do so. Perhaps you can explain how to fight a virus state by state? Ask it for a passport at the state lines?

The proof is in the pudding. The USA has displayed 4 or 5 the number of infections and deaths as most other first world, and even many second and third world countries. We didn’t need to invent the wheel; we only needed to do what other successful countries were already doing. Trump was activity doing the opposite. Undermining trust in the proven rules, undercutting governors who were trying to implement self isolation, masks, and social distancing rules, telling his followers, including armed followers, to flout and oppose the rules implanted by governors, etc, etc. He still is! Biden at minimum would have encouraged, not undermined, the correct policies.

I’m done! All this has been put forward in multiple threads; no reason to endlessly repeat these documented corrections of invented Republican talking points.

Have you not heard of the Defense Production Act?

https://www.whitehouse.gov/presiden...-defense-production-act-regarding-3m-company/

"Memorandum on Order Under the Defense Production Act Regarding 3M Company"

The facts do not support your narrative.

I respect that you have your own opinion. Just don't forget the facts.

The first reported instance of a Covid-19 case in the US was confirmed on January 21. On January 31, Trump announced a restriction on all incoming travel from China, effective on February 2.

Blaming Trump for Covid is a Democratic strategy doomed to fail.
Ha ha. No.

Werds madder.

You should at least give him credit for being close.

Trump's China ban only provided exemptions to 40,000 people or so.

Easy because of how uniquely stupid and selfish americans are. The lack of empathy and civic mindedness is a defining trait in americans and so you can't compare america to a country of non psychopaths.
