Trump and Melania test positive test positive for Covid 19

Kayleigh McEnany now positive.

Hopefully Trump will be able to tell the Doctors why this is happening now he understands it. We need his genius leadership in such times.

That Trump is the new Chuck Norris?

That Trump is going to recover and come back and have all the knowledge necessary to fight Covid off once and for all?

I'm not 100% sure but it sure was a stupid thing to tweet.

That still puzzles me a bit about Trump. He is the epitome of the cliche of everything white rural southerns hate and fear.

A fast talking lying Yankee con-man billionaire from New York City living in a gold plated castle who was born with a silver spoon who has no traditional family values and never goes to church and disregards his marriage vows to trade up for younger and younger trophy wives and secretly pays off strippers for sex and has gazillions but pays no taxes and curses in front of children and has never worked an honest day in his life and is only concerned with himself.

Trump is the quintessential Republican bogeyman. Yet...here we are.

He's a Republican who tells them the things they want to hear- as a Repub, he's a member of the "conservative" club, and that makes him an honorary Southerner. At one time, about fifty years ago, he would have been a Democrat, when they were the conservatives for the South; the Southern Strategy put an end to that.

And all those sins are between him and Jesus, who has forgiven him, so what business is it of theirs? That sort of rationalizing never seems to work for, say, Bill or Hilary, but that's why it's called rationalizing- if nothing else, it's selective.

(Sorry, I know I'm a couple of pages behind here)

There is also the whole genre of person acting like an idiot gets their comeuppance glee people feel when watching say videos of people driving like idiots then wreaking their car.

I posted this to Facebook after hearing how awful and “un-Christian” it is that some people wish the president ill:

I would never wish death or illness on another human being. I condemn those who do so, Christian or otherwise. Yet, like a Greek Tragedy, one can still have a sense that things are playing out as they should - a great king or leader who mocked and belittled an adversary laid low in the end by that very adversary. It just seems right and almost inevitable.

Of course those same people were praising god for the death of RBG. But there really is nothing more Christian than total hypocrisy.

He's not saying anything at all, and isn't really intending to; but is sounds cool as hell, and it's something the MAGAhats can high-five each other over while they hope it riles the libs.

Right, I get it. That's exactly what I'm trying to express, actually. You are not a sociopath who lacks empathy in normal circumstances. You care about others, in general. But there are certain people and situations in which your baseline human empathy goes out the window. I called this idea "situational callousness." In your case, you feel justified in your views. I understand it, even if I don't agree with you. I don't think that people expressing similar views are bad people, just normal people with normal emotions.
.....

The issue is not that someone has fallen to the random misfortunes that can affect all of us. In this particular case Trump's illness is the result of his own bad behavior and criminal acts, which have caused 200,000 deaths and immeasurable pain. If he suffers, it's nothing less than justice.

And I have no idea why you're going on about rape. But if a rapist gets sentenced to prison, or his last would-be victim pulls a gun and blows him away, it's not "situational callousness" or anything else to say he got what he deserved. People merit sympathy and empathy when random misfortune befalls them; when they knowingly bring their fate on themselves, not so much.

Well put.

What does conservative even mean here? What does Trump have in common with McCain, the Bushes, Romney, Reagan, even Nixon? Let's not overthink this. Trump hates the people his base hates, and he says so out loud. That's all it takes.
