Trump and Melania test positive test positive for Covid 19

From the medical update we learn that Trump is also being given Dexamethasone in addition to the Remdesivir and the experimental polyclonal antibodies. That's a lot of high-level intervention for minor symptoms.

The Dex is a steroid that (among other things) suppresses fever, so it makes the "he no longer has a fever" news pretty meaningless.

All the real evidence that isn't meaningless subjective opinions ("he's doing well" "he may return to the White House tomorrow if he's better" etc.) suggest at least a moderately severe case. That evidence also includes the lack of Tweets or live video appearances.

Also, the "he's heroically working for the American people" hyperbole from relatives... sounds more like what they might say about someone they're aware is truly struggling with illness rather than someone continuing to answer a few emails while out sick from the office.

It seems we're allowed to know that he had oxygen and episodes of low O2sats a day or two ago, but not whether he had any today. Charitably, it's justifiable to keep his actual present condition a state secret. (You can't launch an attack yesterday.)

It may simply be that Trump is demanding more medication than necessary, and the doctors are complying. That isn't rare. I remember in college at the university hospital the form you filled out when going there asked you to describe yourself as "medication liberal" or "medication conservative", which meant do you tend to reach for the pill bottle right away in the hope it does something, or do you tend to avoid taking pills unless you are sure that they are both necessary and effective?

Trump is a hypochondriac. He would jump on any drug he could if someone told him it might make a difference.

A serious question, who pays Trump's medical bills? I mean, does the President have insurance as part of his job? Is the US government his insurer? Is that a job perk that he didn't accept, in the same way as his salary was something he didn't accept, so he's self insured? I'm assuming that the doctors still keep track of treatments and issue bills, even for the President. Where do they send the bill?

It's not an important question, but I am curious about it, and it's not 100% irrelevant. If he wants an experimental medical treatment, does it have to be approved, in any sense of the word? If I want that, the doctors would say, "Ok, but insurance won't cover it." Would that also be true of the President?

Trump could certainly be demanding more medicine out of a desire to get well "faster". But I refer to my previous contention that POTUS will be treated more aggressively relative to his symptoms than ordinary patients as a matter of course.

It's a potentially deadly disease. His doctors are aware of that. They're going to do everything possible, and price is no obstacle in his case.

Trump's doctor says he didn't admit yesterday that Trump was put on oxygen because he was trying to be publicly upbeat. "I didn't want to give any information that might steer the illness in another direction."

As I've been saying, they'll tell us "he's doing well" whether he is or not. They'll lie/misinform/play word games just as they've admitted they've already done.

Robert O'Brien on 'Face the Nation' defends the failed White House efforts to prevent the president from being infected with coronavirus
"We did our best"
"best" including no face masks? Like hell they did their or anyone else's best. If they were stupid enough that they didn't even understand masks, well...karma.

An amazing admission by Trump's doctor that he repeatedly lied to make Trump’s health sound better than it was:
https://www.cnn.com/2020/10/04/politics/trump-mark-meadows-chief-of-staff/index.html

I do wish that I could be amazed by this bit of news.

However, after being repeatedly inundated by a whole host of stupid, idiotic, lying Trump lackeys for the past four years, then I am not surprised that a doctor and a serving Naval officer would also lie in order to support Trump.

Haven't had time to read the thread, and maybe someone's said this already, but I logged in to post a thought that came to mind: Are we sure Chump's actually got the corona? We know he's not above lying, we know he's a crook, we know falsifying stuff's par course for him, we know he's trailing in the polls, we know he came off the "debate" looking like the loathsome subhuman gibbering creature he is, we know he's desperate to somehow postpone elections, and we know he's given to surrounding himself with people who are without spine and who supinely do his bidding: given all of that, I'm sure he's not above pretending he's got infected, in order to somehow stave off the defeat and the ignominy that's probably staring him in the face.

eta: Or else, even if the polls aren't actually put off, then at least create a narrative that doesn't show him abjectly whipped.

Yeah, ok, sounds CTish, I admit: but given the nature of the literally AMAZING creature we're speaking of here, it sounds ... let's say, not wholly implausible.
While I can see the benefit Trump might believe he has with this major hail Mary distraction, the answer is, it is wholly implausible.

It's just like the 911 inside job nonsense, too many people would have to be not just involved, but keeping their mouths shut.

YeahNo.

I don't know how common it is for covid patients in hospital to wear masks. I know the people caring for them wear so much protective gear they look like hazmat workers in disaster films, so I don't know if there's a need.

Except when you put O2 face masks on a patient (as opposed to a cannula) patients do no wear masks in the hospital.

In true respiratory isolation, however, you ideally have a negative air flow room. The air flows one way from the hall to the exhaust vent behind the patient. That helps protect the workers.

From the link..

Right... That happens all the time...

They assume everyone is as stupid as the President is...

It appears that for whatever reason, the doctors doing the briefing don't want to outright lie about obviously objective facts. (Whether the patient has been given supplemental oxygen, what drugs are being given and so forth.) But if there's any subjectivity or wiggle room, always consider, if the truth were completely different from what they're clearly implying, whether they could justify it if the statement were being questioned at a hearing later.

"'He's recovering' - yes, well, of course that was our belief, because time was passing and most patients do recover over time, regardless of what that day's vital signs showed."

"'We want him to be out of bed today, working and moving around' - well, of course that's what we wanted, unfortunately that couldn't happen because he was unconscious."

"'A momentary fever' - well, of course 'momentary' in a medical context doesn't necessarily mean brief, or that it was over, just that it was the condition at a specific time."

And so forth.

In response to the tweet, no not really. Dems are not stupid enough to shoot themselves in the junk, Repugs are.

Like all elected officials the president is fully covered medically. And if Trump didn't accept this perk like he "didn't accept" his salary, you can be d***ed sure he's milking it for every last penny.

Trump could certainly be demanding more medicine out of a desire to get well "faster". But I refer to my previous contention that POTUS will be treated more aggressively relative to his symptoms than ordinary patients as a matter of course.

Treated more agressively sure, being pumped with yet untested treatments (both of his main treatments are IIRC only at stage 2 yet, so no knowledge of efficacy or safety); that's more of a sign of "We are about to lose our patient! Oh Stercus, Stercus, Stercus! Moriturus sum!"
