“Self funded” would mean the money for his campaign came directly from his own pocket. He was bragging before the 2016 election and has done the same this time around about how much money he has raised. That is not self-funding.

As far as I can tell he may have self-funded his first couple of appearances - for example the one he paid for actors to stand around when he announced he was going to stand for election in Trump tower.

After that it appears he has been like most candidates I.e. his campaign is funded from the money that is raised.

Some of you Americans may be familiar with the quote from a reasonably well known republican:

"That government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth."

It may not perish from the earth, but who there is noticing that it is rapidly perishing from America? Your government these days has very little to do with "the people". It is mostly government for the ruling elite, which is exactly what a revolution in the 1770"s thought they were getting rid of. The American republic is turning out to be a failed experiment. Parliamentary democracies have a much better track record and much longer histories.

The pendulum is swinging again. The silver lining with Trump is that he accelerated it by making it really obvious how much corruption, police violence, and other problems there are in the States that the backlash might just be happening earlier, and faster, than it would otherwise.

I'll never forget the trail ride I took in the hills above Innsbruck when the trees started exploding. We had to ride very fast and duck occasionally when I burning tree branch hurtled our way. The tourist bureau really should have mentioned all the exploding trees when they suggested the idyllic bike ride to a picturesque alpine lake.

No, no, no, no, you fail to understand. You don't get exploding trees in Austria because, according to President Trump, they tidy away their fallen trees and sweep away leaves in a timely fashion.

That, and the fact that Austria isn't in the middle of a multi-year drought. ;)

Well that's a dilemma. Do I believe you or the Austrian agriculture minister. I guess I'll go with you due to your first hand experience. The minister is just repeating propaganda provided by staff. Looks like you have confirmed that Donnie-boy was right after all.

When are you going to finally realize that Both Sides Suck? The truth obviously lies in the exact middle between their Two Extremist Positions.

So saplings and other smaller trees sometimes go off like fireworks. Nothing to panic about, and certainly no reason to go voting for one of Those Extremists!
 
I have found that the number of exploding trees I encounter in a forest is directly correlated to the number of magic mushrooms I have eaten.

One of my favorite books as a kid was the classic children's survival in the wilderness story My Side of the Mountain and one of the most memorable scenes has Sam, the young protagonist of the book, sitting inside the hollowed out Hemlock tree that serves as his home with he starts to hear trees "exploding" in the forest around him. A heavy winter ice storm has coated the trees in a thick layer of ice and some of the older or rotten trees are literally shattering and collapsing under the weight of the ice.
