Cont: The Trump Presidency: Part 24

There are going to be so many books about the Trump administration written in the years to come trying to explain what the hell happened. I don't know what genre they will fall into: non-fiction or horror.

I kind of figured that there would be enough books that they would get their own section.

And I am still trying to predict whether universities will simply offer classes in Trumpism or if they will offer it as a major.

I want to change my answer about non-fiction vs horror. Neither, they will be placed in True-Life Crime.

Just looked over the old vs the new Rose Garden because I thought people were exaggerating how bad the new is.
Remember the red Christmas trees?

Hair tests detect narcotics for longer periods than blood or urine. Only the length of the hair limits the time the narcotic can be detected. Although it cannot be used to determine if drugs were ingested on that day, it can show past drug use.
But for that you need real hair.

...I figure there's no way Trump will participate in a debate under any circumstances, drug test or no.
I figure there are 2 reasons why he WOULD participate in a debate...

1) he thinks he can win. Granted, he's an idiot, and will likely lose to Biden (as Trump lost to Clinton). But, his ego probably makes him think otherwise.

2) He's trailing in the polls. Usually the candidate that is behind wants to have as many debates as possible, in an attempt to catch the front-runner (hoping they make a mistake.)

How are we defining “hyperbolic generalizing”?

Trump does openly racist things and is currently enjoying a 90% approval rating among Republicans.

It's been obvious ever since he started spouting that racist birther crap - and republicans immediately began to favor him for the presidency. In 2011. If the GOP writ large is not a white supremacy political group, they sure do an excellent job looking exactly like one.

I remember the Clinton-Trump debates. Clinton wiped the floor with him. He still 'won' the election.

3) Whatever happens in the debates, he has at least a few trusted friends in the media who will frame it as a win. If he spends the entire debate smearing feces on studio walls and Biden coughs once, Hannity will have "Is Biden well?" as the #1 story.

Trump's former Assistant Secretary for Threat Prevention in the DHS, who voted for Trump in 2016 because of "the pro-life issue" says she's voting against him this year because of his bolstering of white nationalism and his prevention of the members of his administration who tried to prepare for covid:

The two can both be true.

The second one, in particular, is interesting. However, I wonder how much contradiction one would find by going over 12 years of MSNBC. My bias is a lot less, but it is ... well, a bias.

Fairly certainly a lot less. Bias does exist, but... it's well worth remembering that the MSM (and democrats in general) are held to a dramatically higher standard and use a fundamentally different business model when it comes to how they attract and maintain an audience compared to Fox and far right media outlets.

That makes no sense. One of the Trump supporters tweeted something like this too. I don’t get it.

“In Biden’s America, there will be riots in the streets.”

Vs

“In Donald Trump’s actual America, there are riots in the streets”

What doesn't make sense about it? A heck of a lot of what actual riots and violence there is is directly being done by Trump supporters - and that remains true even if you take the overly aggressive police officers out of the equation.

For example - the Kenosha shooter was photographed sitting in front row of Trump rally in January. Oh, and something darkly unsurprising happened in relation to that. Tucker Carlson. Tucker argues that white militia guy accused murderer of protesters was trying 'to maintain order'. This is another link that pokes at that, too.

It's well worth remembering that there's a disturbing subset of Trump's base that Trump parders to in particular - white supremacists and that, well... feel free to listen to Elizabeth Neumann, another Trump official, on that. Not that she's a particularly good person, but... well, there are a lot of white supremacists actively gunning for a race war and it's a fairly normal tactic for them to try to turn peaceful protests into riots.

Another anti-gay gay guy in the GOP. What a surprise.

Mildly related -

House Republicans urge 'outside groups' to attack Democratic candidate's sexual orientation

Indeed.

In sad fact, when it comes to historical non-fiction of the unfiltered, un-hagiographic sort it is the case more often than not.

Taking the diplomatic path, Trump cabinet minister attacks Canada.

From: Windsor Star
White House trade adviser Peter Navarro is taking some unprovoked swipes at Canada...He suggests Canada’s decade-long mission, which cost the lives of 158 Canadian soldiers, was motivated more by a desire to curry favour with the U.S. than to support the global fight against terrorism.

The U.S. was the main target on 9/11. Canada joined in the military action, in part due to our membership in NATO.

And we are attacked by a member of the Trump administration.

And this is something you can take pride in. We have reached the stage where being attacked by someone in Trump's circle of brown-nosers and sycophants can be viewed as a badge of honor.

Congratulations.

I’m ******** losing it.

Imagine if you asked Trump “there was an attack on the US. Another country is prepared To risk the lives of their soldiers to help us. Would you prefer that that county’s motivation be to fight global terrorism or to curry favor with the US?” Can anyone doubt the first thing he would say is “what does curry mean?” and his second response would be “Obviously the latter.”

What is gained by trolling Canada with this offensive stupidity?!

All counties must be offended equally by the great USA. Leaving anyone out implies favouritism and is frowned upon diplomatically. Trump’s administration strives to be seen at all times as being fair.

Nah. Just another idiot running his mouth off sans thought.
