Taking the diplomatic path, Trump cabinet minister attacks Canada.

White House trade adviser Peter Navarro is taking some unprovoked swipes at Canada...He suggests Canada’s decade-long mission, which cost the lives of 158 Canadian soldiers, was motivated more by a desire to curry favour with the U.S. than to support the global fight against terrorism.

The U.S. was the main target on 9/11. Canada joined in the military action, in part due to our membership in NATO.

And we are attacked by a member of the Trump administration.

I think you may be underestimating how this plays to different audiences. Your reactions won't be shared by everyone. For example, I thought the music video during the Dem's convention by Stephen Stills was awkward and offputting. But chances are other people liked it. Chances are the Dem's target demographic responded better than I did. The fact that I didn't respond well to it doesn't mean it was a mistake.
 
There's the optics angle. And then there's the angle of how demented it is to showcase nutjobs who exhibited deplorable behavior.

Who thinks their behavior was deplorable? You, obviously, but your opinion on that isn't universally shared.

They’ve also been charged with a crime for their behavior and then went on television to talk about how Democrats promote lawlessness.

But also there was this music video during the Democratic Convention that Ziggurat didn’t like.

Totally the same thing.

The law enforcement officials who charged them with a crime seemed to find their behavior to be unacceptable.

The protesters were trespassing on private property. They were not obeying the law. And we've seen far too many non-violent protests turn violent for protesters who are already breaking the law to claim cover under that.

Every time I see something like the highlighted, I'm amazed all over again at how brazen the Trumps are about how they can manipulate their die-hard followers, the "shoot someone on 5th Ave and not lose one" thing. I mean, c'mon- with Jr, Eric, Ivanka, Jared all profiting off their connection to the President in one way or another, ways they couldn't have without that connection, how blatant does the hypocrisy need to be before any sane person would choke on it? Same with a couple of other things- his schtick now that he saw and dealt admirably with the Covid 19 danger while Democrats downplayed the whole thing, when the easily accessible historical record says otherwise about his actions. And his more recent claim that an executive order that he has in mind "requiring health insurance companies to cover all preexisting conditions for all customers" will be something that "has never been done before," when it's a popular part of the Obamacare law that his administration is now trying to overturn- are the Trumpkins really that densely oblivious?

I'm taking the liberty here of re-framing Zig's drivel into something that's actually spot-on:

Trump's followers are so racist, and so opposed to peaceful protest, and so generally unhinged, that showcasing these nuts might actually be effective.

Of course. That's always what these arguments fall back on. The other side is just racist.
