Related question: is there any particular reason why his musings about delaying the election have suddenly gotten him so much attention these days? Hasn't he been saying this on and off since before he even won the election in 2016? Also, the answer seems unchanged, given the Constitution hasn't changed or anything.

ETA

Well... declaring his statements 'jokes' or 'sarcasm' is how GOPers distance themselves from them. It's a clever post-fact way to do so without actually having to call the Boy King wrong, or saying he was out of line.

I supsect it is an attempt to switch attention away from the Virus...say something outrageous and it dominates the news cycle.
Ptoblem for Donnie is that he tweets often hurts him more then evem the cirus news does.

The American revolutionaries admired a Roman called Lucius Quinctius Cincinnatus, who was given dictator powers during an emergency and gave it up once the emergency was over. The city of Cincinnati is named after him.

It was an ideal both the Republican Romans and American revolutionaries strived towards. To always work for the good of the people and the republic, and not for personal gains or glory.

The ideal was forgotten during the late Roman Republic, and finally buried by Julius Caesar.

Let that be a lesson, Americans.

The founding fathers never intended being a member of Congress to be a lifelong career.
I have taken a lot of heat here for my suggestion that it might come to a literal fight, and people who love freedom should consider arming themselves, but more and more I think I am right.

You made me gulp really hard. There's still good news, though.

33 Dem Senators are not up for re-election. 30 Repub Senators are not. 2 Independent Senators (who caucus with the Dems) are not.

Even if you don't count the Independents with the Dems, it's still a total of 65 Senators with 33 Dems, a *bare* majority. If you count the Ind. with the dems, it's 35 Dems. Either way, Dems have the majority.

Sheesh. Whew.

Indiana, Wyoming, South Dakota, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, Kentucky, and West Virginia will got for the Republicans.

Alaska, Texas, Alabama, Georgia's special election, and South Carolina probably will go to the Republicans.

Oregon, Illinois, Virginia, New Hampshire, Delaware, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Massachusetts will go to the Democrats.

Arizona's special election, New Mexico, Colorado, Minnesota, Michigan, North Carolina, and Maine probably will go the Democrats.

Montana, Kansas, Iowa, and Georgia's non-special election, are too close to call.

So our most likely (whatever that means in this world) scenarios range from a 50/50 split (so whoever holds the VP being the tiebreaker) to a slight Democratic Majority.

It's the one problem with Trump's normally very effective "One Man Gish Gallop" method of always distracting us from the current outrage by doing something more outrageous. Sooner or later he's gonna discover the "Planck Outrage" that he can't distract us from.

But in President Trump’s twisted, narrow mind, if his statement hurts himself but stops President Obama’s speech from getting any coverage, then it is a win.

Republicans in Congress are anxious to distance themselves from his desire to delay the elction, right?
Yea, sure, right.

Do reporters ever ask, “and did you laugh at this joke, senator,” followed by, “do you know anyone who laughed at this joke?”

Or better yet, “given that no one has laughed at any of his last five jokes, do you think it is time for the president to stop telling jokes?”

We are going to WIN the 2020 Election, BIG! #MAGA

Must know Election results on the night of the Election, not days, months, or even years later!

Glad I was able to get the very dishonest LameStream Media to finally start talking about the RISKS to our Democracy from dangerous Universal Mail-In-Voting (not Absentee Voting, which I totally support!).

The story it's likely intended to distract from is what should have been the lead in a world that hasn't gone bat **** crazy. The economy contracted by a third in the last quarter. Oddly enough, he picked a topic that might be the only thing that could hurt him more, politically than the economy contracting by a third.

Umm...that would not be the risk to our democracy the media has been talking about today.

Just for clarity, my scenario was the one in which elections are not held (as likely or unlikely as that may be). Just trying to cover all bases.

Again yes I understand that the guy wearing the Hockey Mask and holding the machete isn't legally allowed to murder me.

I'm still worried that he might still do it though.

"He can't do that!" doesn't mean he won't.

The whole country may owe a debt of gratitude to the Portland protestors. That may have been the test run for some sort of attempt to have the government take over Democrat run cities. That the effort didn't go particularly well one hopes was instructive.

In comparison, he makes Trump look even more like the classless Bozo he is.
Yes, it is impossible to conceive of Trump making any such speech. Trump is simply unable.

Of course, Trump wasn't invited. Bush and Clinton were and Pelosi. Not Trump. It must gall him that even now Obama is upstaging him.

Excellent point. Now that I have seen the timeline, that the tweet came out a few minutes after the terrible GDP numbers dropped is Pretty supiscioius.
