Are atheists too complacent?

Yes, but if some of them are prone to push their beliefs on others and some aren't, then you're doing the latter an injustice by lumping them in with the former. So, once again, do you have any personal experience of atheists seeking you out and trying to force their beliefs or lack of beliefs on you, in the way that many religions specifically mandate their followers to do?

If it occurs from either side, it's wrong to do, I'm not playing favorites, although yes I have known some atheists to be a but pushy to.

Which god or gods do you believe in?

I don't know, but I believe in forces way bigger than myself and my world. I just don't know or care what they are, and I personally doubt they consciously interact with us in any direct sense. Ideas like holy laws and prayers just strike me as ludicrous. Naming deities seems equally ludicrous.

Look, let me spell this out to you in simple words.

I hate it when pigeons sit on my roof and crap down my chimney; this is a thing that pigeons do. Sitting on a roof and crapping down my chimney is not a thing that Christians do. So, if I say, "I hate it when anyone sits on my roof and craps down my chimney, whether they're Christians, pigeons or insurance salesmen," then I'm casting unwarranted slurs on Christians by implying that there are some circumstances in which they will sit on my roof and crap down my chimney.

Now I can imagine you may have seen a few atheists get a bit pushy, but I suspect they were in a discussion that had already started, that people could choose to be or not to be in. I suspect they weren't parading around neighborhoods, knocking on doors and bothering people with no interest in discussing their beliefs. I suspect they weren't going on television and ranting about how anyone who didn't share their lack of belief was fundamentally immoral and not worthy of citizenship. I suspect they weren't dragging people out into the open and throwing stones at them or shooting them for their beliefs. These are not, generally speaking, things that atheists do. Getting a bit heated in an argument that's already started is a very different thing.

You would know if you believed in a god. So you are in fact an atheist - welcome to the club! :D

Seriously all that is needed to be an atheist is to not believe in a god or gods; you can believe the world was built by leprechauns and run by elves and not believe in a god and you are still an atheist. It is a label that tells you nothing more about someone than that they do not believe in a god or gods.

Thank you for posting this. I was thinking of a response along similar lines and you have saved me the trouble.

When I saw the title of this thread, I thought it was going to be about Atheist complacency that most Countries didn't have blasphemy laws anymore.

Like 'keep bringing up all of yer' sciency stuff that makes religion look bad, and we might just bring back the inquisition.'
