There is name and address cleaning software that's designed to spot the worst of these. Then again, it typically costs real money to run a large dataset through that kind of software (it it's any good and the list of "fake" names is reliable) and it strikes me that the Trump Campaign aren't the kind to realise the value of decent data quality.

Not a US citizen so I may have this wrong, but doesn't she have to pay US taxes despite not living there? Seems fair to get something back if so.

A US citizen living abroad has to file a tax return, though they may not necessarily have a US tax bill depending on the reciprocal tax arrangements between the US and the country (or countries) in which the person is resident.

Mrs Don is a joint US/UK citizen who has lived in the UK for nearly 30 years. About 5 years ago she "went legit" and started filling in her US tax return. Every year it costs us several hundred pounds in accountancy fees because we are charged "per account" for all savings and investments. So far, she hasn't had to pay any US taxes but her tax-free UK savings accounts (PEPs, ISAs and National Savings) will likely be subject to US taxes which could end up costing us hundreds of thousands of dollars :(

The combination of Tax and FACTA are really onerous - the latter is particularly intrusive because they want to know of all accounts on which Mrs Don is a signatory. That includes our joint accounts, our business accounts, the charities for which she is treasurer and the local village hall.

We wouldn't have accepted the $1200 cheque were it not for our accountancy expenses. As it is, it'll pay for somewhere between 2 and 3 years worth.
