He's going to be playing the "Rigged Election" tune a lot between now and November.

But nobody suggest he's pre-staging a way to just not step down if he loses, that would be alarmist and dramatic.

It seems to me more likely that he just wants a face-saving excuse for a loss, rather than some kind of attempt to win it after all. The childish "they cheated, that's why I lost, not because I suuuuuuuuck!" that sometimes one encounters after playing games with literal children. Trump's got the mentality of a toddler, and this fits with that.

Remember he made the same claims about election cheating before the 2016 election which he actually won. He was setting up the excuses for what he was anticipating to be a loss.

I agree, but the possibility is non-zero, and even if Trump himself wouldn't, some future President could use this as a precedent, knowing that he or she can trust Congress to do **** all to stop him/her.

Just because President Trump might not be keen, it doesn't necessarily follow that the GOP wouldn't be willing to give it the good 'ol college try - especially if the Democrats have the House and the Senate is in play.

Reading the link, Trump did a poor paraphrasing:

Yeah but he plants the seeds in the minds of his followers and that's not a recipe for puppy dog kisses and unicorn hugs.

Remember these are people who shoot up pizza parlors to save the Democratic Sex Slaves they keep in the Dungeon.

So no I'm not talking on a full on military coup ala XXX2: State of the Union or that Civil War that a certain someone is anticipating and keeps bringing up over and over.

But he puts the idea that he's some sort of "True Leader in Exile" to enough of his followers and it could make for some... unpleasantness.

Much like everything Trump won't literally say "I'm still the rightful ruler, protect and avenge me my loyal followers!" but he will keep motioning to it and wiggling his eyebrows.

Trump has let a lot of "Hey guys this crap only works if every agent in the system is honest, you can just not play the game and get everything you work!" genies out of a lot of bottles that aren't going away when he does.

At the rally, he called Covid-19 "kung flu." I sort of understand why people support him, but at some point don't you have to revert to being an adult?

Seems like if there really is an issue with the security of mail-in ballots then something should be done to make them more secure, not to simply remove it as alternative for minority voters (obviously old white people like President Trump will still be allowed to mail in their votes ).

Developed nations around the world seem to manage - is this yet another case of something that the US can't manage to do that most other countries somehow quite satisfactorily.

Then again, when evidence of voter fraud is found it tends to be (i) small scale and (ii) done by GOP voters in the majority of cases.

I can see Trump provoking it, even to the point of shoving, and then claim to be the victim after getting knocked out. I'm afraid the Trump could die from getting hit in the face though, he's out of shape and a complete snowflake.

He will sell his followers on the need for voter suppression as a valid counter to mass voter fraud that doesn't actually exist. Expect to see a lot of voter harassment and disenfranchisement in key areas.

Will it be enough? Again I don't know 2016 was a game of goddamn inches in a few key counties that only time can tell if was a statistical fluke or not and 2020 is going to have twice the unaccounted for and uncontrollable variables but everything crooked he did in 2016 he's had time to get better at so... I'm still not comfortable jinxing this with optimism.
