Cont: The Trump Presidency: Part 23

I am not surprised he is attempting that, but am gob smacked he blurts out he is doing that in front of the whole world. That is something you do as quietly as possible.
As people have said, thank heaven that Trump is so stupid in his attempts at evil dooing.

MSNBC commentator Nicole Wallace frequently oibserves that Trump, unlike almost anybody else in politics, "says the quiet part out loud." Even when everybody can see what you're doing, you never actually admit it -- unless you're Trump.

.....
Both of those are major screw-ups on the part of the campaign organizers. Knowing who you sold a ticket to is pretty much a fundamental requirement for any kind of event organizer, even if it's a free event, and they completely dropped the ball on this. And not only did they drop the ball, they acted like they were actually spiking the ball in the end zone.

But they must have had some idea of what was happening. The alternative is that they really expected a million people to show up at an arena with 19,000 seats. Even if they really thought only, say, 10 percent of ticketholders would show up, did they really want a huge angry crowd swarming outside? Maybe they did.

Well, given how much they were touting the "one million ticket requests" bit, it highlights two things:

  1. They didn't realize that some individuals were reserving hundreds of tickets each
  2. They set up a system that allowed individuals to reserve hundreds of tickets each

So this suggests that if Trump becomes president, he might have an incompetent team running the White House? As Bob observes, the fakes don't really matter if you're overbooking the venue anyway. I'm sure there are a bunch of flakes at even the well-attended rallies (and under normal circumstances).

It feels like people are getting sucked into caring about **** that doesn't really matter. Trump's emotionally invested in his crowd size, so others become emotionally invested in the same nonsense, and then a futile debate ensues about why the expected crowd never materialized. Who cares?

Regarding trump urging people to attend his Tulsa rally, playing down health concerns, while at the same time deciding attendees would have to digitally sign a disclaimer so they (or their next-of-kin) can't sue trump if they get sick. trump, it appears, really doesn't care whether the average trump supporter lives or dies. That wouldn't surprise radio's Howard Stern.

Cleveland dot com reported last month that, on one of Stern's broadcasts,
Stern said he has as much disdain for Trump supporters as the president does. Stern suggests that Trump doesn’t like regular people who voted for him and only cares about celebrities. "The oddity in all of this is the people Trump despises most, love him the most," said Stern. "The people who are voting for Trump for the most part...He’d be disgusted by them. Go to Mar-a-Lago. See if there’s any people who look like you. I’m talking to you in the audience. The Trump voter who idolizes the guy, he despises you. Despises you!” Link to Cleveland dot com

trump being trump -- he once admitted to a Playboy interviewer he doesn't respect most people "because they don't deserve it" -- I'm sure he thinks Mr. and Mrs. MAGA are total jerks and losers.

Sure, they never expected all one million to show up - just the problems of travelling during the pandemic must have occurred to even these idiots. But they did expect a huge overflow crowd. They were expecting 40,000 people standing outside the venue, had a stage set up for TrumPence to give speeches, and a jumbotron to show the indoor speeches live to the outdoor crowd.

And all that was wasted - Trump and Pence didn't even bother showing up for this part.

No way did they spend that much money and effort if they didn't really believe they were going to pull about 60,000 people to this event, overall, which is reasonably close to that 10% figure you quote.

But as strategy, it's actually quite brilliant.

If you were living in Tulsa, and you heard that there were a few thousand tickets still available for the rally, you might just decide to go and see what the big deal is.

But if you heard that they sold a million tickets? Even if only 10% showed up, that's a hundred thousand people milling around outside an arena that can fit less than one-fifth that number. No way are you going to get last-minute drop-in attendees with numbers like that floating around in the news.

And then, when 99% of those ticket sales are fakes, they're left with a half-full venue, and egg on their face. The optics of this are terrible, and it forces Trump et al. into even more stupid lies to cover it up.

At one point, he was telling the crowd that they couldn't get into the building because of all the "thugs" who were blocking the way. And everyone in that crowd knows, for a fact, that this is stupid ********. It didn't happen. They saw Trump lying to them in real time about something they saw with their own eyes.

And that had an effect - people were leaving the rally long before Trump was finished blathering. Like football fans in the fourth quarter when the home team is losing 42-0, they decided that beating the traffic home was a better use of their time.

He's not gaining any new voters with this nonsense, and every voter he loses is all to the good.

How did it work? Did everyone who signed up receive tickets? Or did they only give them to the first people who signed up (enough to fill the arena plus some extra to cover non-attendees), with others told "if you cannot get in we will have something outside for you"

ETA 2: The Trump campaign is blaming protesters for blocking access to the metal detectors. There were no protesters anywhere near the detectors.

I know I’m an idiot for expecting logic, but didn’t POTUS send out one or two dozen Tweets about how the world was going to see how he and his supporters handle protesters Trump-style?

ETA
I imagine that both the uniformed and plain-clothes agents of the USSS are not happy about being accused of incompetence for the sole purpose of stroking Trump’s ego.

They have sworn an oath to lay down their lives to protect Trump's ego.

And, as expected, Trump is already trying to walk back the "I stopped Covid testing" using his often used "I was only joking" defense.

One reporter noted one of the songs being played as people left the rally was the Stones "You Can't Always Get What You Want"...

Joking about a deadly illness during a pandemic when the country is irreconcilably split on how to handle the illness - now that’s funny. You’re killing ‘em tonight, Mr. President.

I hope he lives long enough to see history refer to him as the stupidest US president ever.

BINGO! An there ya have it.

Mmm? You're not remembering, for example, the people associated with Epstein that were being investigated? There's something about that investigation coming up next Wednesday, I think I read. There's plenty of potential corrupt reasons why Barr/Trump would want to interfere with investigations happening there, though.

Barr: Betman has resigned
Berman: no I haven't
Barr: ok, the President fired him
President: no I haven't

Jeez, what will Barr's next lie be?

Hard to tell. Was it Barr's lie or Trump's lie, though? Both are nasty liars.

Incidentally, in the background...

Trump loyalty purge roils Pentagon

Political purge the next, this time in the military, though not only in the military.

Not a good thing to hear, for obvious reasons.
