Much of the article is pretty much a somewhat long list of different forces that have been defunded by Republicans. For example -

The Internal Revenue Service, which polices the tax system and which is responsible for making sure the wealthy and large corporations pay the taxes they owe. Thanks to this successful effort to defund the police, the agency “conducted 675,000 fewer audits in 2017 than it did in 2010, a drop in the audit rate of 42 percent,” according to ProPublica. With 30,000 fewer tax cops on the beat, a recent Treasury Department report found that 800,000 high-income households have not paid more than $45 billion in owed taxes.

There's a theme in the selected groups, unsurprisingly. Rich people and corporations get away with a LOT more law breaking because of Republican defunding of law enforcement.

That's not "real" crime. Real crime is committed by poor people in poor neighbourhoods.

People like "us" can't commit real crime.

A cold civil war perhaps but not a hot one. After yesterday, I'd say our courts are still working and Congress is still holding the purse strings. We need to tighten up transparency and accountability in the Executive but we're not in civil war territory.
