Cont: The Trump Presidency: Part 22

trump is, after all, 74-years-old. He has never in his life been under the kind of stress he has dealt with the past three-and-a-half years. He reportedly has a poor diet. He's overweight. He doesn't exercise. (Riding around a golf course in a golf cart ain't exercise.) It seems fairly certain he is having problems with declining health.

But dictators staying on after they have suffered serious mental/physical decline is common. My fear is he gets re-elected, then behind-the-scenes becomes increasingly infirm. What happens with most dictators? Family members take over. The country will be run by ivanka, melania and donald, jr.

Think the situation can't get worse? :( Remember to vote early and often in November!

I have read a lot about FDR's WWII years, and there was a period of rapid decline starting in 1943 and lasting right up to his death in 1945 that some historians refer to as a borderline regency through his daughter Anna, with support from Eleanor.

Also worth mentioning that there was strong pressure to suppress media discussion of the president's declining health. Wheelchair references were censored. There was an example of a journalist saying the president was "wheeled in" and he almost lost his job.

Obviously things change. 50 years later, we all got to watch Bush Sr projectile vomit on the Japanese PM in slow motion replay.

Good grief, that lawyer for Trump suing CNN was on its Reliable Sources today. A rambling, repetitious speech which didn't give Brian Stelter a chance to get a question (or correction) in edgewise, then claiming he wouldn't let her speak. I so hate that kind of interviewee.

She was (or at least acted) extremely offended when Stelter tried to correct her lies. She sounded like Trump was whispering in her ear.

It's actually a little bizarre that Trump attracts all these spacey blondes to work for him. What's the appeal?

He's crazy and stupid. If he didn't tweet about it at all, it would not be a story.

Not true. It was huge on twitter before he tweeted. His tweet was a response to the trend.

Also trending today, as it's his birthday, were Obama memes (particularly memes of him drinking water and moving well), #TrumpIsNotWell, and #TrumpWearsAdultDiapers. The latter has been a rumour for a while, although one piece of evidence for it (a photograph of him at an official event where he looks like he's wet himself) not only would be the opposite of what you'd expect (diapers contain urine, rather than passing it through), but it's also untrue (it's just a shadow). But there are other pictures where it looks like you can see the shape of them underneath his trousers, like in this tweet.

I don't know whether or not it's true, but it wouldn't be unusual or shameful for a man of his age. Neither is going bald.

I've also read an account from someone who worked in the White House during the Reagan years who said that he was basically gone for the last 2-3 years of his term, with all his actual duties being performed by staff and aides. Possibly Nancy, too, but it's been too long since I read it to say for sure.

But why did the ramp not have a railing?

Or did trump tell them to take out the railing because he didn’t want to look frail by using a railing?

Whatever the reason, the inside of his head must be a very strange place. “I walked down a ramp slowly, I’d better tweet an explanation. Then they will think I’m strong and agile. Ohhh, and I use the word momentum to show how popular I am.”

Trump Tweets

The ramp that I descended after my West Point Commencement speech was very long & steep, had no handrail and, most importantly, was very slippery. The last thing I was going to do is “fall” for the Fake News to have fun with. Final ten feet I ran down to level ground. Momentum!

That's true if you consider 'ten feet' in Trumpspeak equal to about 2-3 feet and 'running' as hopping the last couple of steps due to momentum. Why would the ramp be slippery? It wasn't wet. The officer walking alongside Trump had no problems walking down that 'slippery, long and steep' ramp at all. Whatta putz.

He's obviously having a problem with his right leg. It looks an awful lot like the way I have to favor mine because of my hip problems.

It's not the fact that he has physical issues (so much) that people are upset about. It's because he lies about them.

The man is 73 years old. The way he's walking down a ramp is not unusual for someone that age. I don't think it's any big deal but I agree that it's the fact he has to lie about it that is so aggravating. He'd be better off just ignoring what's being said than lying about it. But then, asking Trump to show some common sense and adult behavior is asking the impossible.

Appeal for them? Money, first of all. Why are they selected in the first place? Almost certainly, the softcore porn appeal, just like on Fox News, which is part of a larger push to shape and exploit biases.

Come on! I'm 71, I could hopscotch down that ramp, or skate down it, if it was slippery. I saw the video, he is not doing well for his age.

I think he is burning out.

I didn't say he was doing well for his age but I don't think his walk down that ramp is unusual for an overweight septuagenarian. I think he's burning out mentally from the stress of the last few months, but to assume he's had a stroke (as some have) due to the way he walked down that ramp is quite a leap. It smacks of "I want to believe this so I'm interpreting it to confirm that belief."

Not being able to bring that glass to his lips without pushing it up and guiding it with his other hand is far more supportive of something not quite right than his walk down the ramp.

And he’ll be deliriously happy if he doesn’t win. He’ll live at Mar-a-Lago (instead of that DC dump), endlessly tweet attacks on Biden and all else, be an “elder statesman” guest on Fox and OANN whenever he wants, get a round-the-clock Secret Service detail, be forevermore called “Mr. President” by everyone, and not be nagged by all that doing-the-actual-job ****. All of it on the public’s dime, never mind a nice little pension plus benefits. He’ll be grinning more than Gwynplaine on nitrous oxide.

Well, he could, but there would be some side effects. The zoning agreement he negotiated with Palm Beach is very specific. He can run Mar-a-Lago as a private club, or he can use it as a residence. One or the other. Not both.

And he can't just stay there and pretend he's just visiting as a guest. That agreement goes into excruciating detail concerning the the definition of a "guest", the number, and the duration of a guest's stays. There isn't really any wiggle room.

Reckon he'll give up his club just to live live there?

Oh, I agree on that. Either there's some beginning dementia, or he is out in the deep end. His mode of tweeting also seems to confirm this.

....

"septuagenarian" ... cool, I just learned a new word in English. ;)
