I am surprised that this does not seem to be a story on any mainstream media. The President directly contradicted the lie told by himself and AG Barr while foolishly riffing during the talk. They both publicly insisted that tear gas was not used.

Perhaps he meant during protests in general, where maybe tear gas was used, but that pepper balls were used in Lafayatte park?

He was bragging about using it.

I also liked how he said it was "like a walk in the park," seeing as how it was a walk in the park. And he bragged about how no one resisted, which makes me wonder why force was needed to begin with.

I hadn't heard about this:

So I suppose that means Barr lied. Sometimes, even some Fox personalities get fed up with being lied to all the time.

ETA: And even in that story there's walking back of the walk-back. Somebody's skepticism comes through loud and clear.

It was, but then I don't get point of the walk-back; police said they shouldn't have said tear gas wasn't used, then they go on to say tear gas wasn't used. Something smacks of ass-covering, but I can't figure out how that must have come about.

Frankly, I think Tiffany was the luckiest of all the children being brought up in California and rarely seeing him. She might actually have a chance at not turning out to be a scumbag.

Her face at the inauguration said it all. She was not a happy woman. She probably renegotiated her "golden parachute' and Barron's inheritance before agreeing to not divorce him during his administration and/or until after he's re-elected.

He's gambling that the racist vote will get him second term. I hope America will do the right thing second time around. I really do.

I'm a white guy married to a black woman and we have two teenage boys, she has a lot of family in the US, and she doesn't want to go there now and has refused to travel there in the last three years. She certainly doesn't want to take our children there, and I don't want them to go either.

She has never been more disgusted with the US, and has cried alot in the last month and been so angry. I feel so powerless.

God help the US.

Why Does Trump Lie? An op-ed from the NY Times:

It often befuddles observers that Mr. Trump has no urge to hide his lies. Of course he doesn’t. Because he doesn’t care if he’s caught, because he has no regard for the democratic limits named above. His only real purposes are holding on to power by any means necessary and relentlessly reinventing himself to keep his reality show on the air for as long as possible.

So, far from respecting the institutions enough to sneak around them or appear to conform with their rules, he is perfectly happy to destroy those institutions that might expose him (the press, Congress, the courts, the inspectors general). He has nothing but contempt for the institutions that check him, so he has no urge to hide anything. And of course — maybe the most frightening part of all — he has not a moment’s concern for what endures after he’s gone.

So this is what makes his lies worse. They threaten the foundations of the republic in a way that even Mr. Nixon’s did not. And they will only get worse.
