Cont: The Trump Presidency: Part 22

You know how the president likes to claim that his popularity is like 96% among Republicans?

Yeah, I don't think so.

In the Indiana primary, he only got 92% of the vote against Bill Weld.

He doesn't even have 96% support of Indiana republicans.

Shoot, Joe Biden was at 78% among democrats, and that is even with a ballot that contains Sanders, Warren and Buttreig (who is from Indiana so likely has a pocket of support).

I don't understand, why would that make a difference?
If by "holding it upside-down" they are talking about holding it from the bottom, he's doing that, yes. But it's not accurate. The string markers are clearly emanating from the bottom (as they should be) and the text on the spine is right-side-up.

???
There is no printing on the other (back) cover, either.
BACK TO FRONT not upside down. Why is 3d spatial reasoning so hard?

What's really weird about trump is that he has convinced rational people to defend him at all cost. Even when they know he is flat out wrong. This would be understandable for his base. No argument there.

But when it is not his base? Oh sure, they bought the t-shirt.

Now I know you to be one of the more level headed rational posters here. I now this to be true

Yet here you are in defense of the idiocy of trumpty dumpty.

You wanna sink on that canoe? Go ahead. Nobody is stopping you. In fact, trump has severed any and all means for doing so. I and many are already considering the post america world. Welcome to your third world basket case nation. Try it on for size...

Looking at the Gallup polls going all the way back to the election (I just eyeball scanned the page, it's possible I missed a spike here or there) I don't see his approval rating among Republican Voters (not even just generic Republicans) ever going above 94 (and I only saw it reach that once), usually staying in the mid-80s, and even dropping into the high 70s.

Maybe it is the time for police and military personnel of conscience to defy illegal orders.

At my interview to be a police officer, I was asked what I would do if, as an officer, I was issued an order I thought was illegal.

In my answer, I recall bringing up the Nuremberg Trials and the French Police being condemned by history for rolling over and cooperating with the Nazis. As I did so, I thought I was going too far and was not going to be selected.

Well, I was selected and in the Police Academy the obligation to refuse to comply with illegal orders was emphasized. Sure, just one example, but blind obedience was never mentioned in our training.

Oh we've always known. Except now you know too. Trump is just the racist great uncle screaming our dysfunction at the neighbors.

You say it wasn't in the official training? Oh well, that's all right then, I'm sure it can't possibly be the de facto state of affairs if it wasn't in the handbook.

Dancing on America's grave and going "I always knew it was that bad" will not help America's black community.

Just a brief dismissal? No reasoning for that dismissal? Not even a philosophical BS argument for why the dismissal does or does not exist?

That is very interesting. But I am unsure if it is even possible to recover from that gaffe.

You have an uphill struggle ahead and nobody is willing to chuck a rope.

By "never mind that", I merely meant that casting aspersions at Kaepernick's protests was bad, sure, but not as bad as using force to disperse a legal protest so that Trump could have his photo op. That strikes me as a much worse than his treatment of Kaepernick.

But I didn't mean to say that his treatment of Kaepernick wasn't evidence that (of course) Trump doesn't care about protesters (aside from those in his base). It is evidence. I just thought that his more recent aggression against peaceful protesters prior to curfew is even better evidence.

Of course not. What will help America's black community is making everyone saying "it's not that bad," understand that yes, it is that bad. Only then will people be able to agree to make it even slightly less bad.

One thing about the Kodak moment at Trump’s House-O-Self-Worship that struck me was how small and insignificant he looked. No gravitas or grandeur, no stateliness or charisma. Cautioning myself against seeing what I wanted to see, I simply couldn’t get past the thought: This guy?

Once removed from his trappings, separated from his framing devices, he just looked small. Well, smaller.
I noticed as he was striking his different poses it was like he was a contestant in a beauty pageant.

I also find it amazing that Trump and his supporters are trying to portray his little one block walk as the height of bravery. Image the courage of the man - willing to dare the evil protestors when he was protected only by a massive cadre of secret service agents, police, and national guard. And remember, he has a bone spur which would be giving an opponent an advantage. The guy has the heart of a lion!

The photographer and others in PR team either:
Don’t know any better,
Don’t care,
Or sabotaging

Part of the problem is his suit is comically large to hide his obesity. It's a David Byrne suit. It only makes his head and hands look even smaller.
