Cont: The Trump Presidency: Part 22

I see Trump's newest refrain is "Law..and...Order!" since building the wall and making "America Great Again" clearly failed miserably. Let's see how badly he can fudge this one. :boxedin:

Make America a Dictatorship!

ETA: Make America a Dictatorship Already! MADA!

Let's hope they start caring, then, because from the sound of things this is going to keep escalating until they decide following those specific orders isn't in their best interest anymore.

[ETA] Will you people stop arguing about legality? Trump does not and has not and will not ever give a rat's ass about whether his orders are legal. Will they be followed, is the question you should be asking.

Their enthusiasm was quite apparent when they began their charge into the peaceful crowd. These are not the type of people who are likely to change their outlook.

I love George Will:

Always have, even when I thought of him as the enemy, but he was always an enemy with principles, and he just writes well. And he's a Cubs fan, so that's good enough in most cases to overlook his faults. The above column gives his current opinion of Donald Trump.

My favorite parts from your link:

Voters must dispatch his congressional enablers, especially the senators who still gambol around his ankles with a canine hunger for petting.

A political party’s primary function is to bestow its imprimatur on candidates, thereby proclaiming: This is who we are. In 2016, the Republican Party gave its principal nomination to a vulgarian and then toiled to elect him. And to stock Congress with invertebrates whose unswerving abjectness has enabled his institutional vandalism, who have voiced no serious objections to his Niagara of lies…
Those who think our unhinged president’s recent mania about a murder two decades ago that never happened represents his moral nadir have missed the lesson of his life: There is no such thing as rock bottom. So, assume that the worst is yet to come. Which implicates national security: Abroad, anti-Americanism sleeps lightly when it sleeps at all, and it is wide-awake as decent people judge our nation’s health by the character of those to whom power is entrusted. Watching, too, are indecent people in Beijing and Moscow.

Why on earth did this idiot hold up a bible? Are the protests somehow religion connected? Hell, no. This was nothing more than another nod to his evangelical base. What a pig.

I guess he sees himself as Zeus wielding cluster of lightning bolts, ruling above all the humankind, and this somewhat seemed as closest thing available.

Trump has no real values. He's just pandering to his base (obviously you know this). Wouldn't put it past him to wear an American flag suit while burning a Quran and holding the 10 commandments in each arm. And I mean i can literally envision him doing this..

He is not the only one. Values and truth died a while back. The US is as much a kleptocracy/plutocracy as Russia.

I don't think it's quite that bad yet, but it doesn't help they keep firing the people who are supposed to be counting the silverware.

One of the problems is his base (evangelicals/many "traditional" conservatives) engage in symbolic stances and not real, principled values. You need not exhibit christian values to be praised. Raising a bible in a photo op is good enough. He can get away with murder (in regards to his base).

He gets to act tough while rage-tweeting about how many dogs&weapons he can bring to bear on the protestors, all the while safe in the knowledge that the real tough guys surrounding him will cover his ass. So he doesn't get a pass for that either.

His whole Church&Bible Dog&Pony show was just another example of this.

He realized he looked like a weakling after hiding in his bunker behind the real tough guys, so instead, he got the real tough guys to beat people up for him, so he could take a walk. Which, of course, still makes him look like the weakling he is.

Trump is that one guy who like to mouth off, because he knows when push comes to shove, his friends won't just stand back and let him get his ass kicked.

What I like about it, and I do so wish that more people liked, is that it is wholly about his character. It isn't about economics, or racism, or even incompetence. Trump is accused of all of those daily here and throughout the land by his enemies, but those things are not why he is deservedly hated, why he ought to be hated by more. Disregarding all of those things, he is, after all of that, a loathsome creature.

One thing I appreciated was that he started right from the very beginning, in the reaction to the inauguration crowds, and his pettiness and his disregard for the truth. Yes, we dislike his tax cuts for the rich, or his Supreme Court nominees, but much more so we ought to fear, and even those aligned with him politically ought to fear, an utter mendaciousness that one might expect from a Saddam Hussein, but not from the President of the United States.

I know it isn't realistic. I know it won't happen, but I am glad to see a man like George Will, whose conservative bona fides are unquestionable, calling on the Republican Party to dump their incumbent President, and even to be whisked out of power if they refuse.
