[palaeo-fan]Don't get my hopes up like that.[/palaeo-fan]

My daughter, an amateur paleontologist, still hasn't forgiven Spielberg for promoting that T-Rex lived during the Jurassic age. It lived millions of year later during the Cretaceous period.

So apparently Trump got a bunch of governors and the phone and tore into them on the phone for not being tough enough with the protestors, so expect to see escalation from most of the Republican governor controlled states.

I'm hoping the Governors realize that, at this time more than ever, we need LEADERSHIP. Not authority, but leadership.

Unfortunately, with the whole COVID issue, leadership by our elected officials has been hard to find.

Virtually all of the dinosaurs in the story are from the Cretaceous, the Jurassic animals being the Brachiosaurus, Stegosaurus, and Dilophosaurus (offhand). Some clarification could have been worked in, I reckon, but that would have required the foresight of the movie being a blockbuster that actually changed the public perception of dinosaurs (keeping in mind that the movie title was the title of the Crichton novel), though the sequels have little to no excuse. We joke on a certain Discord that the the most accurate dinosaur in the movie by far was the pelicans.

More time elapsed between the end of the Jurassic and the time T-Rex lived than has elapsed since T-Rex died out. In pure numbers Holocene would be more accurate than Jurassic

We have learned that two of those arrested for throwing Molotov cocktails at police vehicles are attorneys. Colinford Mattis, 32, is a Pryor Cashman associate and graduate of NYU and Princeton. Urooj Rahman is a human rights lawyer and graduate of Fordham

Anarchy, rioting, and looting needs to end tonight.
If local law enforcement is overwhelmed and needs backup, let's see how tough these Antifa terrorists are when they're facing off with the 101st Airborne Division.
We need to have zero tolerance for this destruction.

Damn lawyers, I knew it. Ban the lawyers.

One take-away from that incident which isn't getting anything like the attention it needs ... it should be repeated to (beaten into the heads of) every single person who defends the police ... is that even though the cops who arrested Jimenez and his crew knew they were being recorded while Jimenez told them they were journalists, showed ID and offered to comply with any instruction to relocate, those cops still hauled them in and later claimed they had no idea who they were and that no indication had been given to them that they were arresting reporters.

Even though they knew they were being recorded!

This is exactly the sort of arrogance, entitlement, and impunity which has led to these protests in the first place.

Not only are facts of no concern to them, clear evidence isn't either. They just deny, obfuscate, and continue with the same bigoted, sociopathic behavior. And the ones who don't stay silent if they aren't vocally supporting the lies of the guilty.

Over and over again. What's that saying about the definition of insanity?

Remember, the Arbery video was released by the killers' defense attorney, who believed it would help them. :boggled:

These are not isolated incidents, as much as the conservatives who make a career of apologetics would have us believe. It is clear, unquestionable evidence of a disease in the policing culture. Which itself is only a reflection of the disease of the complacent majority who refuse to see the effects of the policies they support while viewing themselves as badly mistreated any time they are inconvenienced.

To repeat an anecdote that someone on a game I play shared that's of some relevance -

Fortunatly, I know a lot of the protesters in my area. What is
unfortunate is that while they are peacefully protesting they are
having unmarked cops who are still in partial uniform, their
boots, and other things, come into the peaceful crowd and try and
rile them up. When that didn't work they got flash banged and tear
gassed multiple times, with no crime being commited. A police
officer threw a rock through a window and was 'arrested' for it,
though I know that officer due to family problems. They used that
as an excuse to push the protesters back and call in swat. Its sad
that the police aren't just standing there and protecting the
people like they do at the kkk rallies. Instead they have to stir
up **** and cause problems. Also, they claimed they were breaking
curfew, but that city had not implemented one yet. Only three in
my state had.

I guess Cretaceous Park just didn't have the same ring to it. My daughter concurs with that assessment of the sequels.

phiwum was responding to a post that suggested Chauvin was sure he could get away with murder. While murder in the third degree is still murder, the fact that there is no intent would suggest he could now have known Floyd would die and therefor could not have been "expecting to get away with murder". IMO Chauvin expected to be able to get away with assault, and he probabaly would have gotten away with it had Floyd not died.

I agree with that.

ETA: Phiwum is not the only person to have interpreted this as saying Chauvin intended to kill Floyd. I did, too.

Now, if SB says that was not his intent, then I accept that. But I agree with Phiwum that the wording suggests that Chauvin knew he could get away with murder which indicates that was his intention.

And, please, I don't need to be jumped on by those who disagree. I've read your posts and simply do not agree with them. I'm not going to rehash this with you.

Apparently the reports are true.
It is now being reported that one of the defendants arrested, Colinford Mattis, 32, is a furloughed Pryor Cashman associate. Mattis is a graduate of New York University and Princeton University. He was reportedly arrested with a second attorney in the attack. Mattis is accused of driving a van and passenger Urooj Rahman, 31, threw a Molotov cocktail. Rahman is reportedly a human rights lawyer but also recently lost her job.

Maybe the real problem is unemployed lawyers.

Ann Coulter recently Tweeted: "To anyone worried that Trump is AWOL as America implodes, rest assured: I'm told he's tracking down some very promising Joe Scarborough leads."

It's worse than I thought. Is there anyone George Soros cannot buy off? We must do everything we can to support this President!

By giving him money so he can buy off some people?
