The Trump Presidency: Part 21

AFAIK, elections must be held, and on time, it's in the Constitution, so the GOP implying they won't be held is like Trump going on about how he wouldn't accept defeat if he lost the election.

Why the **** would this pasty nitwit think anything in relation to the election would be up to him? Jesus Christ this is an entitled group of idiots.
He says in the quote that people freaked out over that it isn't up to him and he isn't aware of any plans to move the date. Shocking stuff.

They own have a firm downpayment on SCOTUS, so it's not entirely out of the question.

What I find even more disturbing than Trump's tweets are the fools who swallow them hook, line, and sinker.

And they wonder why I think they're stupid.

I don’t think they wonder about that.
They just write it of to a) name-calling is the new political reasoning, b) you are so grossly misinformed that you don’t even know which way is up, and c) “nuh-uh your the stupid one, you and you’re stupid-head.”

I don’t think he was trying to assert that it was his decision. Daddy (in-law) simply told him to go out and say it. Partly to test the waters and partly to pull the Republican Party’s favorite maneuver - move the Overton Window.

Kushner forced to backtrack after saying he's 'not sure' elections will be held on time

I consider this to be dipping a toe in the water.

Julius Caesar got random strangers to run up to him and shout, "Caesar, you should be king!"

He would strongly deny it. Rome is a republic, and will never have a king! He is but a humble servant, serving the senate and the people of Rome!

He did this to see how the people would respond to it. To see if there was any possibility of becoming king and have the people accept it.

Your point is taken, but your account seems apocryphal.

Cicero recorded:

“Your co-consul [Caesar] was sitting on the speakers’ stage, wearing the purple toga of a triumphant general, seated on a golden chair, wearing a laurel wreath of victory. You [Antony] climb up, approach his chair … and show him a crown.
"The entire forum groaned. Where did you get the crown? You didn’t just find it lying there, you brought it from home, a premeditated and carefully planned crime. You put the crown on Caesar, and the crowd wailed; he rejected it, and they cheered. You criminal, you advocated for kingship and wanted to make your co-consul into your master, you were the only person to test what the Roman people could put up with and tolerate. …

Numerous interpretations of what was happening in this moment are still hotly debated today.

I suspect treachery on the part of Antony.

A month later Caesar was dead at the hands of his conspirators for becoming a tyrant. Antony pardoned them. Then later Antony made Caesar's tyranny seem pale in comparison.

He still leads in the betting markets. https://www.predictit.org/markets/detail/3698/Who-will-win-the-2020-US-presidential-election

I inaccurately predicted his stock would tumble after the body count started to spike.

Betting markets don't matter. What will happen when second wave hits (and possibly third) matters. It is very likely that COVID-19 will still rampage through USA when November rolls in. There will be no time for people to forget/gaslight/fool about who murdered them by inaction to tune of eighty thousand... so far.

So, yeah. Trump is already screwed as far I am concerned. Good riddance.

His only chance for remaining el presidento (literally) is destroying democratic* process in USA with full support of his rethuglican degenerate cronies.

He may be too incompetent to pull it off, but mere existence of that possibility is something that should scare the bejesus of you all that actually care about USA not becoming far rightwing authoritarian state in style of Putin's biggest banana republic in world.

* Well, this process is already pseudo-democratic, both in "Electoral College" sense and in "voting suppression and other shenanigans" sense. But that's neither here nor there.

He doesn't need to be personally competent. Others will do it for him. R governors and legislatures will bend over backward to twist the process. Suits will be filed in conveniently conservative courts against mail voting and other aspects that might favor the wrong sort of people. And the Supreme Court will help him out if it possibly can. They already made W president 20 years ago.

I’m not yet convinced that his followers are prepared to admit that President Trump’s inaction is the cause of the high death toll. A lot of them are still buying into Trump’s claim that the Democratic response is a hoax.

Oopsy.

Kushner just accidentally revealed what he and Daddy-O like to spend their time talking about at the dinner table.

Papa Bear Bare is going to be so mad.... no two scoops for him!

CNN just reported Paul Manafort is being released from prison to serve the rest of his time under home arrest due the Covid 19 concerns.

Manafort has some pretty nice digs purchased with his ill-gotten gains. I'd rather he be released into something like a halfway house where he has to do the dishes, vacuum the floor, etc. Restricting him to his own house smells too much like a reward.

Each of Trump's tweets is evidence of a befuddled fool. But seeing several of them in a row is, for me, quite disturbing. I know it's been said before but he is really dangerous to what is supposed to be the American democracy. Why his supporters don't see that befuddles me.

I am kind of conflicted about this.

On one hand, reducing the number of people in prison to stop disease transmission makes sense.

On the other hand, he is only a few years into a more than 7 year sentence.

It's too bad they don't require him to home-arrest in a dumpy apartment instead of a luxury NY apartment.
