No. Here the politician would be invited to an interview on tv, and saying no is usually not an option. The public won't respond well to a politician who refuses to face hard questions.
I can't remember the last time I saw an American politican go through that. Whenever I see an American politician go through an extended interview, it's more cosy than tough.
Trump "submits" to interviews on Fox almost every day. He has no reason to meet anybody else. He knows others wouldn't be so adoring. There might have been a time when Walter Cronkite or David Brinkley could maybe compel an interview, but that goes back decades to a time when there were only three TV networks.
