The Trump Presidency: Part 20

On a side note, it depressed me no end when I read last night that John Prine was likely infected and had been hospitalized and intubated. And this morning that he was in critical condition. Not 100% sure it’s coronavirus, but his wife had tested positive and his results were inconclusive.

Bittersweet emotions...

Hello in there.
There's a hole in daddy's arm, where the money goes...

This suggests bots and trolls are at work:

And yet only a couple weeks ago (according to the article) social media was very positive about Fauci.

Seems to me a few people are responsible for the attacks.

A few people and a handful of bots can get their message to a lot of idiots. Russia probably has a hand in this.

About a month ago, I told a friend how lucky we were that we made it three years into the Trump administration before finally having a real crisis. My buddy said that if people can't see how Trump shows his ass in managing this pandemic, then we are all doomed. My comment - at least it isn't anything really serious, like a dirty bomb or something. Which sounds bad in retrospect, as there are actually some similarities in what we're facing with this virus.

It's like a dirty bomb went off in every city, town and village. The repercussions are enormous and may take years to clean up, if they can be cleaned up at all.

On Morning Joe just now they made a point...

...once you filter out the “noise” of Trump being Trump - dueling with reporters, his blatant lying and petty obsession with ratings - behind all that it’s apparent that on some level he’s now listening to experts and “gets it”.

The tweet about his ratings really hit me - I think I’ll always remember where I was when it popped up on my iPhone. It was like a slap in the face. On a day when thousands of Americans were newly infected by a global pandemic and hundreds died, THAT’S what’s on his mind??? What a twisted human being.

There's a big difference between getting it, and acting like an adult and doing what needs to be done without concern about the political repercussions. He's nowhere near doing that, and never will be.

The best thing he could do for us right now is either to contract the virus and die, or to resign from office. The former is possible, the latter impossible.

Being on every damn channel at once doesn't hurt either.

When Bush made his remarks to the nation around noon on 9/11/2001, the entire country stopped and watched.

I was in a restaurant at the time, and the entire place went silent.

Tremendous ratings.

Trump said his decision was driven by the science, but he may have been moved more by the personal — seeing body bags carried out of the hospital near his Queens boyhood home and learning that a friend was now in a coma
Are these things Trump is actually experiencing, or things he claims to be experiencing?

... Some thought Dr. Fauci was slighting the president, leading to a vitriolic online reaction. On Twitter and Facebook, a post that falsely claimed he was part of a secret cabal who opposed Mr. Trump was soon shared thousands of times, reaching roughly 1.5 million people. ...

An analysis by The New York Times found over 70 accounts on Twitter that have promoted the hashtag #FauciFraud, with some tweeting as frequently as 795 times a day. The anti-Fauci sentiment is being reinforced by posts from Tom Fitton, the president of Judicial Watch, a conservative group; Bill Mitchell, host of the far-right online talk show “YourVoice America”; and other outspoken Trump supporters such as Shiva Ayyadurai, who has falsely claimed to be the inventor of email. ...

... On YouTube, conspiracy-theory videos about Dr. Fauci have racked up hundreds of thousands of views in the past week.

I agree and I'd bet Trump's digital advisers are very aware of this and tracking it very closely. Social media is very important to the Trump operation. The tail wags the dog, so to speak.

Trump administration sent protective medical gear to China while he minimized the virus threat to US

Concerns about a dwindling supply of PPE are not new. Back on February 7, the World Health Organization sounded alarm bells about "the limited stock of PPE," noting demand was 100 times higher than normal for this equipment.

Yet the same day as the WHO warning, the Trump administration announced that it was transporting to China nearly 17.8 tons (more than 35,000 pounds) of "masks, gowns, gauze, respirators, and other vital materials." As Secretary of State Mike Pompeo noted in the press release announcing this shipment, "These donations are a testament to the generosity of the American people."

Trump Tweets

Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats delayed the Workers Help/Stimulus Bill by over a week, trying to add real “junk” into the Bill. Got some bad things, having nothing to do with those affected by the Virus, included. Republicans need their votes until we WIN BACK THE HOUSE IN 2020!

Agreed.
The president will never get it in the traditional sense of the phrase.
When normal persons understand the scale and seriousness, it changes their world view to the point that they can’t un-get-it. Some goofball on TV can say something and President Trump would be minimizing again.

Has he ever named that friend that is in a coma due to COVID?
Does he even have friends? I mean that sincerely. I'm reminded of that quote from A Song of Ice and Fire: "kings have no friends, only subjects and enemies." Whenever Trump is around someone, I think the only thing he asks himself is, what good are they to me? What can they do for me? What do I gain from associating with this person? Etc.
