The Trump Presidency: Part 20

I can't even express how disgusted I am that an actual President would be thinking about how his appearances rate.

Still, it doesn't seem to be interrupting his increase in popularity.
Well Duh! He wouldn't be president if he wasn't focused on how his appearances rate.

I predict that this disaster will be winner for Trump in the next election. Disgusting for sure, but that's how politics works. The worst thing is that the worse it gets the better off he is. Hell, there may not even be another election - and then Trump will get those extra years he wanted.

And that’s why for years I’ve been saying, things are going to get worse before they get unbelievably worse.

I hate the phrase perfect storm, but I think it applies here. We have a perfect storm of ignorance, stupidity, pride, and anti-science sentiment. Many, many people will die because we have a president who is a conspiracy-theory nut who can’t keep his mouth shut. A real leader would have told these people to STFU and follow the guidelines of the experts.

I forgot to add that I have just read posts on another board which described the President as honest, thick-skinned, and logical. I’m hoping they are just trying to bait the liberals, but I fear there are folks who sincerely believe this stuff.

I do think that it will hurt Trump if the rest of the world comes out of the Crisis earlier, and with fewer deaths.

I can already imagine the response of the hard-core believers. “Deep state. The media made it worse. Other countries are infecting us with chem-trails. The Dems are deliberating infecting people.”

It’s hard to un-drink the Kool-Aide.

Perhaps impossible.

And no matter how bad it gets, no matter how many countries recover faster, no matter how many of their relatives die, the faithful will listen to POTUS say, “You need me. It would have been so much worse if I hadn’t implemented the perfect response” And they will nod, yell “Amen,” and ask when the next Trump rally is being held.

MAGAs gonna MAGA. I'm talking about people still capable of recognizing cognitive dissonance.
What we need to break is the knee-jerk support for leaders in a time of crisis when it is clear that said leaders are exacerbating said crisis.

Sadly, the Trumpanzees will belive as you say. I believe, however, Magites are only 25% of the population or less.

The US citizens who are most likely to get very sick in the next month or so will be those MAGAites who defied medical science because of their unmitigated Trumpism. Which means more of them as a percentage will actually die. Not just retire from Trump rallies, but actual toes-up and into-the-grave die. Of the 100,000 or so deaths that Trump is prepared to weather for his own benefit, they will be the majority of the victims.

Which means fewer MAGAites to vote in November... Hopefully 50,000-plus of them fewer. Enough to swing an election anyway.

This suggests bots and trolls are at work:
... Some thought Dr. Fauci was slighting the president, leading to a vitriolic online reaction. On Twitter and Facebook, a post that falsely claimed he was part of a secret cabal who opposed Mr. Trump was soon shared thousands of times, reaching roughly 1.5 million people. ...

An analysis by The New York Times found over 70 accounts on Twitter that have promoted the hashtag #FauciFraud, with some tweeting as frequently as 795 times a day. The anti-Fauci sentiment is being reinforced by posts from Tom Fitton, the president of Judicial Watch, a conservative group; Bill Mitchell, host of the far-right online talk show “YourVoice America”; and other outspoken Trump supporters such as Shiva Ayyadurai, who has falsely claimed to be the inventor of email. ...

... On YouTube, conspiracy-theory videos about Dr. Fauci have racked up hundreds of thousands of views in the past week.

And yet only a couple weeks ago (according to the article) social media was very positive about Fauci.

Seems to me a few people are responsible for the attacks.

I note with interest, the change in messaging from the Trump Administration. Now the "open for Easter" declaration was always just an aspiration and it's reckless to declare victory too soon (except that's what President Trump appears to have done several times already). I expect a lot of "messaging flexibility" over the next few weeks and months with President Trump contradicting himself on a daily basis (as usual).

A long time ago I had a colleague who considered any difference between his current credit card balance and his credit card limit as "savings". President Trump is doing a similar thing. He's going to claim that any difference between the "worst case" forecast of 2.2 million US Covid-19 deaths and the actual death toll as being the number of lives saved due to his own personal actions.

I hope that he doesn't get away with this and instead he and his administration carry the can for their needless delays, pointless bickering, mixed messaging, ineffective action and obsession with ratings. My hopes are not high though and instead he will be swept to victory in November by a US electorate delirious that the death toll in the US is "only" 1.5 million. :(

Fauci and all his other democrat 'experts' (spit spit) is the reason why our blessed Trump is getting sucked into this democrat hoax of shutting down the whole country over a silly flu just so they can ruin the greatest economy in the entire history of the USA... and help Biden (spit spit) win the 2020 election. That librul-lover Fauci must be pushed out before our poor messiah loses his way. It is our duty as his faithful followers to help him back onto the path of righteousness-ness. MAGA!

This is what I was going to say. It does not matter how many people die, he'll say his administration saved as many as possible. I hope the current disaster at Falwell's "Liberty" Univesity can be used to smear the Greed Over People Party.

He's managed to take credit for the economy for years. It was astonishing when he crowed about the BLS's unemployment stats his first month in office. "But you've been saying all along that those numbers are fake." And he responded, "They were fake, but now they're real."

On Morning Joe just now they made a point...

...once you filter out the “noise” of Trump being Trump - dueling with reporters, his blatant lying and petty obsession with ratings - behind all that it’s apparent that on some level he’s now listening to experts and “gets it”.

The tweet about his ratings really hit me - I think I’ll always remember where I was when it popped up on my iPhone. It was like a slap in the face. On a day when thousands of Americans were newly infected by a global pandemic and hundreds died, THAT’S what’s on his mind??? What a twisted human being.

President @realDonaldTrump: “We’re all in this together. I have never seen anything like it.”

However, you can't be sure when he stops getting it and starts taking advise from Hannity. That's also a part of Trump being Trump.

On a side note, it depressed me no end when I read last night that John Prine was likely infected and had been hospitalized and intubated. And this morning that he was in critical condition. Not 100% sure it’s coronavirus, but his wife had tested positive and his results were inconclusive.

Bittersweet emotions...

Hello in there.

About a month ago, I told a friend how lucky we were that we made it three years into the Trump administration before finally having a real crisis. My buddy said that if people can't see how Trump shows his ass in managing this pandemic, then we are all doomed. My comment - at least it isn't anything really serious, like a dirty bomb or something. Which sounds bad in retrospect, as there are actually some similarities in what we're facing with this virus.
