I find it disturbing that anyone thinks buying guns and ammo are 'essential' during a health crisis. Sadly, I do not find it surprising. It's this kind of mentality that demonstrates the paranoia of so many. What? They need to protect themselves from roving bands of toilet paper stealing thugs? There has been no evidence that crime has gone up during this time.

The Bureau of Indian Affairs today told the Mashpee Wampanoag tribe that the Secretary of the Interior has ordered that their reservation be disestablished and their land be taken out of trust.

Mashpee Wampanoag tribal chair: At 4:00 pm today -- on the very day that the United States has reached a record 100,000 confirmed cases of the coronavirus and our Tribe is desperately struggling with responding to this devastating pandemic the Bureau of Indian Affairs informed me that the Secy of the Interior has ordered that our reservation be disestablished & that our land be taken out of trust. Not since the termination era of the mid-20th century has a Secretary taken action to disestablish a reservation.
These are our lands, these are the lands of our ancestors, and these will be the lands of our grandchildren. This Administration has come and it will go. But we will be here, always.
We the People of the First Light have lived here since before there was a Secretary of the Interior, since before there was a State of Massachusetts, since before the Pilgrims arrived 400 years ago.

The Tribe has a Casino license and Trump had a longstanding feud with this tribe over control of it, he wants it for himself and his casino buddies for a casino, golf course resort.

Last week, a three-judge panel in the 1st US Circuit Court of Appeals in Boston upheld a 2016 decision by Judge William Young.
That decision found the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe wasn’t federally recognized when the Indian Reorganization Act was passed in 1934, so doesn’t meet the definitions of “Indian.”

If GM decides that it needs a certain price to avoid operating at a loss, can the federal government still demand they offer units at below manufacturing cost?

How do you know that's the case?

I don't. that's why I said 'if'.

Certainly possible. But to set up an assembly line to build ventilators required GM to reorganize an assembly line, hire workers, set up supply chains for needed components, etc. And it had to do that in a very short time frame. All of that sort of infrastructure will require require significant investment.

Furthermore, keep in mind that only GM was at a point where they could start producing ventilators in a short time frame. If it was such a profitable enterprise, why wasn't Ford stepping forward sooner with claims that "we can do it faster/cheaper"? (Ford was in negotiations to produce ventilators as well, but they aren't as far ahead as GM.)

The Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe, the very tribe that welcomed the Pilgrims in the 1600s, is at risk of losing what is left of their homelands due to a determination made by the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
Why is this important?

The Mashpee Wampanoag, the People of the First Light, have occupied the same region for over 12,000 years and have faced diminishment of their homelands since colonization. The latest decision is a blow to Tribal sovereignty and undermines the future and sustainability of the tribal nation. The Tribe is asking Congress to protect its reservation lands and has put forth the "Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe Reservation Reaffirmation Act (HR.312)." We are asking for signatures in support of this legislation.

If I recall correctly, Trump also claimed that he was more Indian than that tribe, just look at him.
