The 2000s reboot of the series used the 'attempt to create a vaccine created a killer virus' plot line, which is one that pops up in quite a few earlier series, 'Seven Days' a 1990s time travel series had one episode where the heroes are trying to save someone who has come up with a cure for cancer. The person trying to kill them has come from the future where the 'cure' has mutated into a killer virus.


Quite simply plotlines of this type have been bubbling along ever since the 1975 swine flu scare.

Jack London wrote a story about a plague that wipes out 99% of Mankind called "The Scarlet Plague".
George Stewart wrote a novel called "Earth Abides" in the 1950's about the aftermath of a pandemic that wipes out all but a very few of mankind..
 
The conspiracies are a little hard to keep straight.

“There are 7.5 million unmarried couples living together in the United States,” Baxter said. “That means 15 million people are living together unmarried, and that’s increased over the last 10 years by 138 percent.”

Baxter added that, according to his findings, only “5 percent of new brides in America are virgins. That means 95 percent have already committed fornication.”

I have not read the book but I have read Damon Knight's review. ISTR that the problem is solved by falling on one's knees and praying. :boggled:

My question was about this: "5 percent of new brides in America are virgins."
If the five percent include Muslims or if they only recognize Christian virgins as relevant in this context.
 
So #filmyourhospital is now a thing on twitter with the conspiracy nutter-butters. They go around selectively filming hospitals in quiet areas or random empty parking lots and decry the virus as a hoax. Meanwhile they complain about the lack of media coverage in emergency rooms whilst failing to realize that hospitals don't like you to film video on their property due to privacy concerns.

But when did privacy concerns every stop a conspiracy kook?

Every twoofer video on X subject claims that X is preperation for NWO,I recall 9/11(my first dip into conspiracies) being blamed on NWO. 19 years on and still waiting.

Some things never change.

Critical thinking? Meh. That takes dedication. It's natural to fall in love with your own bias.

And reality is boring, comparatively speaking.

Someone sent this on a Whatsapp group, and everyone was saying things like "oh, they're going to kill him" or "goosebumps".

Me: "Sorry, I'm going to burst this bubble".

I know. It's less exciting. It doesn't look like a John Carpenter movie with which people can air their frustrations but... I don't know, I enjoy having that role among my friends.
 
Seeing more and more of the long discredited (and it's only been a few months) conspiracy theories about "novel coronavirus" used in a simulation last year in my social media feed.

No **** there's a template for new viruses. Shows you can create foreknowledge out of anything, as CT tradition shows.

The wonderful thing about fighting fake enemies is, you can just create fake victories any time you like.

The NWO failed to take over the world just after 9/11? Well, thank your local Truther, they caught the bastards and foiled their plans! Just substitute 9/11 with any other CT you're wondering about. The truthers have won them all!
