Probably the biggest thing any of us have lived through, unless someone is old enough to remember World War II! I saw someone comment yesterday that we have to plan for this to go on untill second quarter of 2021. If it does we'll be living in a very different world.

I sure hope not. I can't afford for this to go on. I earn the equivalent of roughly $3.00 American Dollars an hour. With no tourism I have no job and can't pay my workers let alone my rent. :eek::eek:
 
I don't see this lasting in form for longer than a month.

I think we will see ways to screen for people with elevated temperature at entrances to public places - instead of bothering with a metal detector at school.
Employees could be required to check for fever and log their temperature every morning.
Maybe it will become compulsory in public life to have a wearable that checks your health.

But this isolation isn't going to survive until summer - simply because the gird won't be able to deal with the power needs of air conditioning.
 
Here's a weird thought. Is this a selective countries issue?

Canada just shut down. The EU is shut down. The US is shut down. China, S Korea, Australia, New Zealand, Guatemala (what's Mexico doing?) are shut down or shutting down. Is Iran shut down? What about the rest of the Middle East? Is Indonesia shut down?

What about African countries? The rest of Asia?

Seems like our news is missing big sections of the planet.
 
A team from the University of Queensland Centre for Clinical Research claims to have found a very effective treatment using a combination of chloroquine and an old HIV drug that has been replaced by a newer generation of drugs.

Hello everyone, just popping in because I know several of you check many news sites and I'm looking for something in particular.

Does anyone know of a site that maintains a list of how many known US cases & deaths total each day. And again, totals, not just numbers for that day, but a running total.

I know there has to be a site maintaining a list but I can't find one from a brief search.

Just in case I was not clear, something like this:

March 1st: 5 cases 0 deaths
March 2nd: 7 cases 0 deaths
March 3rd: 15 cases 1 deaths



(Bonus points for the same running list, but worldwide, or for Italy, or wherever; but I need the US list in particular.)

Bumping this because I still need a site with that type of compiled, running list. Apologies if it was linked to me later in the thread.

The pdf Puppycow linked to does not appear to have what I asked for.

Just click on the latest situation report. A new one is published every day.

I've found the data for the US doesn't seem to be updated over the weekend, though. So some times it will show 0 new cases and then a few reports later suddenly there will be a big jump. The latest total for the US is 927 (confirmed cases).

I mentioned Malaysia earlier; Singapore is also well reported on.

Indonesia has gone for voluntary social distancing at the moment; the cabinet met last week and then later the transport Secretary was diagnosed, so the whole cabinet has to be tested.

Philippines has gone for a slightly odd lockdown with people told to stay at home unless necessary, and military patrols to enforce it (how?).

Not heard about others.

That exact same method has been "found" already by at least two other countries. One over a month ago. (South Korea, China, and Thailand AFAIR)

Australian media is sensationalizing as they always do. (The world will NEVER forgive Australia for Rupert Murdoch.)

Considering all the bars, restaurants, gyms, movie theaters etc.. that will be shuttered I doubt there will be any significant strain put on the grid.

The bigger question is will people follow the guidelines voluntarily or will it need to be made mandatory and enforced by police/military?

Britain truly must be facing some dark days ahead when the Health Secretary is soliciting help for producing ventilators on Twitter.

I also read that Sweden used to have a (relatively) large amount of ventilators in storage for use during war or widespread disasters until the 90's. This included 600 ventilators, as a part of 15 mobile military hospitals.

As it is known, once the cold war ended peace reigned in the world and mass casualty incidents could no longer happen. So politicians decided that to maintain a civil defense simply cost to much money.

These days Sweden does not even have any stockpiles of medicine or hospital equipment. To cut costs to the lowest level possible everything is "JIT", or just-in-time, meaning that they only have a couple of days worth of supplies on hand at any time. One wonders if the people who thought that this was a good idea asked themselves what would happen if suddenly their suppliers could not fulfill a new drastically increased demand, or even supply any equipment at all?

It's no wonder the report detailing the situation with these supplies was made secret, as apparently revealing the state of Swedish healthcare during times such as these might significantly harm society.

Hearing from friends in LA that there were lines outside of gun stores and pawn shops the last few days. Anyone think rioting and/or looting is a possibility?

One of the two medications is a HIV drug, which has been superseded by "newer generation" HIV drugs, and the other is an anti-malaria drug called chloroquine which is rarely used and "kept on the shelf now" due to resistance to malaria.

If it's the same HIV drug, it didn't fare so well in some trials. They are saying it did.

I haven't heard what results are with the chloroquine. I would have thought there were more results on that one by now.
