2020 Democratic Candidates Tracker Part III

THIS.THIS.THIS.

Bitter fact is that some on the left have no objections to dictatorships so long as they mouth Left Wing Rhetoric.

Did you say this about Obama?

Because Obama didn't even go as far as Bernie Sanders. Sanders prefaced his perfectly reasonable explanation to Anderson Cooper by saying Cuba was a straight up authoritarian country. Obama praised the healthcare, praised the literacy efforts made by Castro's govt, no mention of how bad Marxist Cuba was.

Only right wing morons ever accused Obama of being a socialist.

I enjoyed this Seth Meyers bit

Voters like each candidate for their own reason, he argued. “They like Bernie for his consistency on issues like healthcare, they like Warren for taking on big fights against special interests like Wall Street, they like Biden for his eight years as Obama’s VP, they like Buttigieg for his youthful charm and charisma, they like Klobuchar for her record in the Senate, and they like Bloomberg because he pays people to like him.”

NBC is tracking the attacks by and against each candidate. No surprise, Bernie leads both categories with 18 attacks by and 32 attacks against. Amusingly enough, the Democrats combined have attacked Trump 22 times (ten times fewer than they've attacked Bernie).

Loved Biden's bit about "Why am I stopping? Nobody else is stopping."

He was the only person on there who didn't at some point look like a moron. I'm not his biggest fan, but his crowding Bloomberg off and not vice-versa would make me sleep better at night.

When he started telling that story about being in South Carolina I was terrified for about five seconds that he was going to talk about how he got in a knife fight with Strom Thurmond.

Yes. Not many people seemed to care.

Probably because most of those here aren't Biden supporters in the first place.

I never said I stopped listening to Rush Limbaugh

True! You promised that you would, though, if certain conditions were met. Those conditions were met.

I suppose this counts as confirmation that your word is untrustworthy.

I'm still waiting for somebody to go after him for his history of plagiarizing other people's speeches. If it does not happen in the primaries and Biden get the nomination it will happen in the general election.

It's hard to be certain with such a dynamic, fascinating figure as Biden. His public personality runs the whole rainbow of interest from gray to brown! Naturally a huge mythology has built up around him in the decades and centuries of his glittering career.

You're quoting Cicero's speech about him, aren't you?

I’ll see you guys dissing Sanders in Central Park.

It's interesting how the world has become so polarized that even people on the same team treat each other like mortal enemies.

Hey, Brooklyn, you're forgetting Economics 101. If wage costs go up for McDonald's, they'll go up for all the other fast food joints as well. But, since a substantial portion of the fast food industry are those on the low end of the economic scale, they won't be able to raise prices because their mainline customers will find another source for their calories (and fat :( ). Read this for a quantitative analysis:

If that were true, the cost of a meal at McD wouldn't have increased so dramatically over the recent years. Clearly they think people will buy their burgers anyway, and they're right.

Seeing as Warren seems to be on the way out, I find myself reflecting on why she ended up being such a weak candidate this time around.

The biggest factor I can think of is her decision not to run in 2016. We see what value Bernie got in introducing himself and his policies during that election. He doesn't seem to be having the same support ceiling problem now that he did in 2016. The Bernie Bro curse has been lifted as a more broad section of the electorate see him as acceptable.

Warren has bungled quite a few things this election cycle. Had she made those mistakes and learned from them in 2016, she might be a much stronger candidate today.

Not sure that she could have beaten Hillary, but not entering the race was a mistake.

I like Warren. She's been an outstanding Senator. But she's been a real disappointment in this race.

The numbers don't support a candidate being a candidate before increasing their chances of winning.

No media coverage. The establishment doesn't like her, she lacks Bernie's feistiness, and she didn't experience any great ups or downs lately, so she just doesn't make the news.

The media was all over her in the 3rd quarter of 2019. She was briefly the front runner in the polls. It's not external factors sinking Warren.
