2020 Democratic Candidates Tracker Part III

Anyone hear what those protesters were shouting at Biden?

It struck me as a bad sign for his campaign that I was a bit confused that anyone cared enough about him to do something like that to him.

With all the squabbling on stage, and Bloomberg with his women, surprisingly it's Biden that gained by tonight's debate. There was a lot of "I'm the guy" stuff from him, but we are used to it. And it would also work well with Trump.:D To Trump: you are the guy that rode a limo at Indy 500 and keeps talking about yourself. Nothing but talk.

Daytona

Soirry, Venom, Warren wiped the floor with other candidate in tonight's debate. Time for Bernie to start waving the white flag.

Lets not get ahead of herself here. It was Bloomberg, so it isn't like she was playing the varsity. It's too early for her to drop out. Or for anyone. A brokered convention is still way too in play for anyone to bail.

Sanders fears a brokered convention because of the "500 superdelegates".

I get it if you get the most delegates you feel you should win. But if it isn't the majority, what does that say about the general election?

It's too early for this speculating but Sanders needs to consider he says his priority is getting Trump out.

Whoo hoo!

But I wonder if anyone except political junkies are watching? I used to watch these sorts of things, but I don't anymore. So, how effective is that sort of thing? We shall see. It's a good line, for sure, and true. A few weeks ago I opined on these boards that he was a moderate Democrat, so I would like him, but as I saw more of him, it seemed that he was more an more Trump-like.

Not nearly as bad as Trump, but has some of the same personality flaws.
For those not watching, and this is where Bloomberg failed hard, it's the clips and sound bites.

What it says about the general election is nominate the candidate with a plurality because that's more chance than anyone else has.

ETA: besides, it was the 5 no and 1 yes to make hay over the network wanted.

What do you think would happen in the general if Sanders won the majority of the vote, but at the convention someone else became the nominee? I can only think that would end in a disaster even if the new nominee might have polled better otherwise.

I've been meaning to check out the Bernie Sanders Headquarters in the Mission District of San Francisco near where I live. Just as a friendly spectator, to see what it's like and how engageable (or fanatical) the volunteers are. After all, it is the Bernie Sanders Headquarters in San Francisco. The belly of the beast for a guy like me.

It turns out I was nearby and dropped by today not realizing the debate was on. There were about 50 people there and they had the debate on the big screen. I stayed for about a half hour. Of course, they clapped at almost everything Bernie said and sneered a bit at what the other candidates said - but they especially sneered and laughed at Bloomberg. The biggest applauses of the 30 minutes I saw were all for the "anti billionaire" rhetoric whether it was from Sanders or Warren. Whenever anyone said anything disparaging towards billionaires that seemed to whip everyone into a frenzy of sorts.

Did anybody try to engage you?

It's too soon to tell.

I don't want the Democratic Party to fall into to same trap as the Republicans with the more extreme candidates winning the primaries but not the general election.

What do you think about a candidate that can't even get 50% of the Democratic Party going up against Trump?

What I'd like to see, because we have some split support, is a runoff election (I guess it would need to be the delegates voting).

At the moment:
I'd rather have Warren than Sanders.
I'd rather have Pete than Amy.
I'd rather Steyer became better known and have him be the candidate.

So why would you use your superdelegates to pick someone who not only doesn't get a majority, but loses to the other person who gets the most delegates?
I believe that is bull ****. The superdelegates have never once decided a Democratic primary. But it makes a great boogyman when you are running as a Democrat but you actually hate the Democratic Party.

???

The superdelegates have never decided a primary, but that doesn't mean they couldn't if, as in the scenario you brought up, they could make the difference in a contested convention.

How is it a question? Sanders puts it out there in his "Democrats are corrupt" fear mongering. And yet he runs as a Democrat.
