Cont: The Trump Presidency: Part 19

So who wants to throw a twenty in the pot on when the retaliation and retribution will start?

It has already started. It began with all the attempts to name the whistleblower publicly *. I expect the House witnesses will be let go from their positions or at least demoted. Those who remain employed, anyway. Then there's the retribution against Biden, Schiff and Pelosi, probably through BS "investigations" designed to be publicly funded oppo-research.

* This is one of the most dangerous parts of this entire episode, imo. It shows flagrant disdain for the law. I work with classified information. If I had done what Rand Paul did I would be in jail. Then again, I live in a socialist hellhole.

I also wouldn't be surprised if the winner of the Democratic Primary becomes the subject of multiple federal investigations five minutes after the winner is announced. After all, it's been officially established that using federal resources to manipulate an election in your favor isn't abuse of power.

I don't know which will disappoint the Republicans more, if they don't win in 2020 or if he does win and that means he doesn't have a Democratic President... to immediately start impeachment proceedings on.

Congratulations Republicans!
You are now the sole owner of the Trump Presidency - with all the risks and liabilities that entails.

I think there may be increased risk of embarrassment down the road. With Trump emboldened by the recent acquittal, he is almost certainly going to blunder into even more wrong doing. This time, it may be something of such pure idiocy or contempt that even Republicans might look foolish for their support of Trump in the past.

We can hope...

You're adorable.

Gallup released some polls this morning. Gallup is generally considered non-partisan and generally well respected and trusted.

- Trump's job approval, while still crappy, is at this personal best, 49% (https://news.gallup.com/poll/284156/trump-job-approval-personal-best.aspx)

- Nine in ten Americans are satisfied with their personal life, the highest recorded in Gallup's 40 year history. (https://news.gallup.com/poll/284285/new-high-americans-satisfied-personal-life.aspx)

- 59% of Americans say they are better off financially then last year and 74% say they will be better off financially next year. (https://news.gallup.com/poll/284264/record-high-optimism-personal-finances.aspx)

- 41% of Americans say they are "satisfied with the way things are going" which sounds low but is the highest it's been in 15 years. (https://news.gallup.com/poll/283958/satisfaction-surpasses-first-time-2005.aspx)

- Democrats and Republicans are equally engaged in politics. https://news.gallup.com/poll/267311/democrats-republicans-equally-engaged-2020-election.aspx

A lot of metrics for the old standby political chestnuts ("It's the economy stupid" "Are you better off now then you were a year ago") are in Trump's favor.

Maybe we're the ones who are out of the loop.

The problem is that, yeah, you can make things seem great if you have a huge, huge deficit.

It's an economy propped up on borrowing. Now, personally, I'm not saying that's wrong, but make no mistake, if this were a democrat as President, no way in HELL would this be acceptable for the republicans.

Okay. And that changes what?

"A majority is satisfied but wrong" is... still satisfied.

Yeah we all know we're gonna have to pay this check down the road, we're not stupid. The check just isn't going to come due before November and until then Trump can keep buying the table drinks.

This is becoming a huge problem in political discussions. When people tell you they are happy you can't go "No you're really not, look at these facts!" and expect that to work. That's not how it works anywhere, especially not in politics.

I've been saying for months that President Trump is odds-on for reelection. These poll numbers are (sadly) what I've been expecting.

There are a lot of people who aren't very interested in politics and maybe who don't investigate every claim who will be convinced by GOP propaganda that the economy is going gangbusters and that they deserve the credit.

Every time Trump reaches 49% approval, the same doom sayers come around saying how they've been saying all along that Trump's gonna win. Then the approval ratings drop again, and the doom sayers are quiet, until the next time.

So if the stock market significantly dropped, how would President Trump blame it on the Democrats. It can’t be the impeachment. It can’t be the legislation they passed.

The problem is that his numbers among Republicans don't seem to change, so it's all about whether democrats and independants will turn up to vote against him.
