I doubt if he'll go off script. He's demonstrated he can sometimes read his lines. But in the past, just as pundits are offering him mild praise for staying focused, he erupts on Twitter spewing toxic drivel, except he sounds even more unhinged than usual due to having had to exercise self-control for a whole 40 minutes or whatever.

Add to this scenario, narcissistic Trump has been reaffirmed to himself once again as invincible. Each incident goes to his head. It grows bigger each time.

I'm asking, was there a way to impeach, and send the articles over, while still keeping the House subpoenas alive while the requests were being litigated.

I don't think there was any legal reason they decided to end the subpoenas, or keep them open while the impeachment went forward.

Just some idle speculation on my part... Maybe they decided to end the subpoenas for tactical reasons... Since the subpoenas were no longer active it forces the Senate to act (or, in this case, not react). As a result, senators had to stand by their decision not to allow witnesses. If they kept the subpoenas going, then the republicans in the senate would be off the hook... they can say "no need to rule on witnesses while things are in the courts".

So McConnell allegedly controls the campaign money form the largest Republican donors illustrating the problem with the Citizens United ruling. How much of the 1.5 trillion dollar tax cut that was given to the rich could get kicked back to senators to keep the theft of US debt in play? McConnell stood and told the whole world that he intended to be corrupt. How much does that cost??

The wealthy donors must love a president that gives them a big slice of 1.5 trillion that will only potentially be paid back by the middle class. Why wouldn't they help Trump become a dictator? He has just broken the checks and balances structure of the US Constitution.

It's now clear why Starr and Dershowitz were so eager to defend Trump in the Senate: in any actual court, they would have lost their license for lying to the Court.

I was under the impression that those, like so absurdly many other things, remained in litigation. There's a LOT of those, though, and it sure feels like they're being slow walked despite their obvious urgency.

This is typical of the Democrats, Pelosi caved to the GOP complaining about dragging things out.

I suspect that pressure from the Democrats had more to do with her sending them.

IOW, the GOP has no responsibility for Trump's criminal behavior. Does it not dawn on Murkowski that it's the US citizens she should be concerned about?

It's like saying, since the cops screwed up you don't care that the crook is breaking in next door.

Murkowski is also blaming Warren for her choice to vote no on witnesses, now.

Warren asked a question about the effect on perceived legitimacy of the Supreme Court that x might have and, well, that was so horrible that Murkowski ended up being forced to vote no. After all, we don't want yet another compromised branch of government, do we?

Maybe if Murkowski and the rest of the republicans weren't so focused on breaking them, they wouldn't be broken? Just a thought.

Other means of suppressing votes was to limit voting machines in Democratic areas, require voter ID but then make getting one impossible for the poor, and purging voter rolls using specious criteria.

To add to the first two of those... don't forget making sure that Democrats get practically broken machines and taking many hours to do anything about it, even when all the machines broke, while rushing more machines to Republicans when the lines were reaching half an hour long. Oh, and claiming Democratic voter fraud based on those broken machines that they forced the Democrats to use not giving perfectly accurate counts. Also, it's not just the poor for voting ID, but... literally, there are a number of personal accounts of people who tried to to get voter ID and the state's clerical errors put them into a situation where they just kept getting directed from one agency to another in a big circle, because no one could legally do anything to correct such.

I don't know crap about politics so I have a question. Let's pretend that he were impeached... would he then be able to run for the 2020 election?

I don't want this guy for president any way but I'm curious about how that works.

At last check... An impeachment has two variables. To remove, it takes a high threshold. Separately, to prevent the person from being able to run for public office in the future requires a simple majority. The two questions are independent, so you can have a guy removed and able to run again as well as a guy not removed but unable to run again.

Separately, Trump has been impeached, and that's not going away. He's just fairly certainly not getting removed. Or prevented from running again, likely, given the Republicans.

Yeah, no worries. McConnell wants Trump as POTUS for 4 more years so Trump will appoint another SCOTUS Justice from the Federalist Society list when RBG retires or dies.
