The Trump Presidency: Part 18

I'm pretty sure there are tweets where Trump has attacked Bezos and Amazon as well. Remember how the law prohibits the President from promoting (or anti-promoting) private businesses, that he breaks all the time, but here is a case where they could show improper influence and hold him accountable.

There are. Remember, for example, Trump trying to falsely claim that the Post Office was losing money in its business with Amazon and his flurry of attacks on Bezos around then as well? Incidentally, whenever that comes up, it's worth a reminder that the Post Office is having financial problems specifically because of Bush Jr. and the Republicans intentionally sabotaging it.

I confess I didn't read the thread before I posted my question about impeachment. I figured it would probably be a topic active in this thread. Silly me.

Earlier tonight, a guy at work, in response to some impeachment news, cheered on Trump's removal as if it had already happened. It pained me to point out the flaw in that, much as Trump deserves being removed many times over.

I don't know. Maybe Trump is just plain weird. Below is a photo of Trump and Melania taken in 2003. (She looks different because it was pre-plastic surgery.) Donnie looks younger and slimmer, but he still seems to being leaning slightly forward.

For some reason, the faces on that just look like they've been photoshopped on, to me.

*Defensive* He read it!

Okay, fine, he skimmed it.

Okay, okay he had someone else skim it and turn it into a one screen PowerPoint presentation with only 4 bullet points and no big words.

Which he then didn't pay attention to because he was on his phone tweeting.

Last I heard, they've long since ditched the 4 bullet points. At this point it's pretty much a show of going in there with 1 point, repeating it over and over and over and guiding the conversation right back to that one point over and over and over. And then maybe, just maybe, he'll get it.

...For some reason, the faces on that just look like they've been photoshopped on, to me...

Not that it really matters, but I doubt very much that is a photo-shopped image. That is actually a news photo taken in May 2003 at an event at the Cartier Mansion in New York City. There are many photos from that event. Here and the one I saw in a Vanity Fair article from last year.

The one below is from NBC News. Same event, same evening, Melania in the same outfit.

Federal judge in Texas blocks the use of Pentagon funding to build the border wall.

A federal judge in Texas blocked the Trump administration from using billions of dollars in Pentagon funds for the construction of the border wall.
Judge David Briones of the US District Court for the Western District of Texas said Tuesday that the administration cannot use military construction funds to build additional barriers on the southern border.

So much winning. Are people tired of winning yet?

Just had a very good meeting with Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and representatives of Russia. Discussed many items including Trade, Iran, North Korea, INF Treaty, Nuclear Arms Control, and Election Meddling. Look forward to continuing our dialogue in the near future!

THANK YOU PENNSYLVANIA! With your help, your devotion, and your drive, we are going to keep on working, we are going to keep on fighting, and we are going to keep ON WINNING! We are ONE movement, ONE people, ONE family, and ONE GLORIOUS NATION UNDER GOD!

Day after day, we are exposing the depravity, dishonesty and sickness of the corrupt Washington establishment — and with your help, we are going to complete the mission and DRAIN THE SWAMP! #KAG2020

After years of rebuilding OTHER NATIONS, we are finally rebuilding OUR NATION. In everything we do, we are putting AMERICA FIRST! #KAG2020

I think he just wants to kill the 54 percent of Americans who disapprove of him.

I doubt he believes it's 54 percent. I think he truly believes he is widely beloved and hugely popular and all evidence to the contrary is manufactured by the small minority of his enemies, out of baseless malice.

I have to agree with that third sentence.

I have never seen depravity, dishonesty, sickness, and corruption quite as prominently displayed as I have during this administration.

THREAD: You will probably see plenty of spin and headlines today claiming the FBI is exonerated in this report. That is laughable, to put it lightly. The report eviscerates senior officials who broke rules and abused power.

@BuckSexton
Now we know the FBI is shockingly incompetent, reckless and dumb even when dealing with cases at the highest level of national importance, and that if handled poorly could undermine public faith in rule of law-
And James Comey takes a bow?
What a world class schmuck.

If the Democrat controlled House does not immediately investigate the FBI abuse found in the IG report it is clear evidence the Deep State has complete control of the Democrat party.

This has been an attempt to silence Trump and his supporters since the beginning!

Wow! All of our priorities have made it into the final NDAA: Pay Raise for our Troops, Rebuilding our Military, Paid Parental Leave, Border Security, and Space Force! Congress – don’t delay this anymore! I will sign this historic defense legislation immediately!

He also consistently and incorrectly refers to to the "Amazon Washington Post".

Maybe she is trying to talk like a detective: “Who do you like on this embezzlement case? Do you like Trump?”
Yes, she’s saying something a lot like that (though it’s more likely to be “extortion” than “embezzlement.”) She has dementia, but she’s very perceptive. She asks me to explain it all to her, which I put as pithily as I can, and she seems to get it.

She’s a lifelong Republican and has consumed her share of Fox News. Yet in 2003 she said, “I hope the government has a better reason for invading Iraq than it says on TV.”

She hasn’t lost that quality, but forgets she’s already asked me.

ETA: And I try hard not to frame my answer as opinion. More like, “Democrats say he wanted Ukraine to promise to investigate Joe Biden before he gave them missiles to fight Russia.” I might add that Congress had already approved the military aid. If she asks for my opinion of Trump in general, I say he’s an *******. Without asterisks.

I think the attempted insult probably goes over the heads of a lot of people. Or worse: They know Amazon really is a successful business. And “sour grapes” is a very old concept, easily understood.

ETA: Makes me wonder what a Trump version of Aesop’s fables would sound like.
