Impeachment does seem to be in the news today, for some reason. There's an entire thread devoted to the impeachment inquiry, but I can understand why some might have expected today's events to have something to do with The Trump Presidency (Part 18) as well.

The six guitars I have purchased over the past 50 years were all purchased one at a time:
  • 3 (two used and one new) from medium-sized shops
  • 2 from small shops
  • 1 (a nylon-string archtop) directly from the luthier
None of those shops sold anything other than musical instruments and related stuff. The luthier lives in a rural part of a nearby state, with no shops of any kind within miles; he made violins as well as guitars, but I don't know how to play a violin.

I thought about putting the question in that thread, but the question wasn't about the inquiry itself. I was more interested about what I perceived as the general lack of interest in the topic of impeachment.

You are dealing, I fear, with people who, although they will never admit it in so many words, think that Captialism and the profit system are basically immoral.
No matter what a big business, does, they will find fault with it.
If the right often goes too far in it's idolization of business, the left often goes too far in it's condemnation.

If Englightened Self Interest causes people to do the right thing, more power to it.

Though of course in its proponents capitalism must always be build on a foundation of grinding hopeless poverty. Sacrifices must be made to the blood gods of capitalism after all.

This one? Not a peep. I never hear people talk about it. I suppose among families or groups of friends that are wildly pro Trump or anti Trump people probably share their Deep Thoughts about how either Trump or his opponents are the most awful thing that ever walked the Earth, but what about everyone else?

I get a big sense of indifference. I think the country may be vaguely aware that yes, of course, some people are trying to impeach the president and....say....how is the home team doing in Sportsball?

Do other people sense the same? I don't know how that will affect things when the political ramifications are sorted out. I strongly suspect the president will be impeached. I strongly doubt he will be convicted/removed from office. I strongly have no clue how it will affect November's election.

Three weeks ago, I expressed my opinion concerning impeachment, why it matters, and its possible consequences. I stand by that assessment, and I have expressed those sentiments in somewhat greater detail on several occasions when friends raised the subject of impeachment in some social setting.

Last August, at lunch before a nephew's wedding with family I seldom see, a close relative mentioned the possibility of impeachment as part of a relatively unprovoked diatribe concerning the madness that is the titular subject of this thread. Of the eight relatives at that table, I would have expected him to be the most politically conservative (in the rather distorted meaning that phrase acquires in the context of US politics, where idiots such as logger qualify as conservative).

My experiences are undoubtedly atypical, as I tend to hang out with fairly highly educated people. It is pretty well established that Trump's support is greatest among a less educated demographic.

Utter rubbish, as the existence of various publicly-traded companies with "ethical" policies shows.



Public or private, they still have shareholders and the process is the same. Heck with a small number of private shareholders, convincing them to focus on anything other than the bottom line can be more difficult because there's less risk of public scrutiny.

The Koch and Trump families are hardly poster boys for ethical business practices.

It's been maybe a year since I've seen much of anyone make a political post on Facebook. Including myself. Perhaps most of us have realized the futility of it. And the personal risk.

I agree, and I pretty much started the derailing process. I’m not sorry, it came up innocently and it hasn’t devolved yet into pages of petty bickering.

On the Which Billionaire Is Worse debate, I’d definitely say Trump - except that I’m not sure he’s a billionaire to begin with, which means Bezos “wins” by default ;) :p

Few people thought Clinton's BJ perjury was a big deal.

Close to half the voting public in polls want's Trump impeached and removed. Fewer people are against it.

At work, in stores, around the neighborhood, I hardly hear Trump mentioned at all.

Must be your neighborhood. I hear it all the time around here: at work, in the neighborhood, occasionally someone in a store will say how much they want Trump impeached.
