The Trump Presidency: Part 18

The biggest mistake Obama made was underestimating how much Putin was interfering. He should have that Trump was under investigation.

It’s official: Under Obama and Biden, Comey’s FBI used Dem-funded smears to spy on @realDonaldTrump’s campaign, then brazenly used that false information in renewal applications.
A complete abuse of power.

Yes, he should not have let Mitch McConnell dictate how we were handling the Russian interference.

I have a question. As the impeachment inquiry rolls on, I have to wonder how Americans view it. The most obvious way to find out is by polling, and I've heard polling data with various results, but a poll misses an important question.

Do people care? Would they even think about it if a pollster didn't ask?

I remember when Clinton was being impeached. The subject came up in conversation. It was on people's minds. It was something that was to be seriously avoided if you were at work and didn't know the people well, but it came up a lot.

This one? Not a peep. I never hear people talk about it. I suppose among families or groups of friends that are wildly pro Trump or anti Trump people probably share their Deep Thoughts about how either Trump or his opponents are the most awful thing that ever walked the Earth, but what about everyone else?

I get a big sense of indifference. I think the country may be vaguely aware that yes, of course, some people are trying to impeach the president and....say....how is the home team doing in Sportsball?

Do other people sense the same? I don't know how that will affect things when the political ramifications are sorted out. I strongly suspect the president will be impeached. I strongly doubt he will be convicted/removed from office. I strongly have no clue how it will affect November's election.

I agree. I never hear the impeachment even mentioned much less talked about. But I wonder, is it because of indifference or because Trump has so divided the public and inflamed opinions to the point people are wary about saying anything in public for fear they may find themselves in an angry confrontation?

At work, in stores, around the neighborhood, I hardly hear Trump mentioned at all.

“You have to look at the 17 instances of misconduct cited in the Report, they are very bad. The FISA Court was clearly taken for a ride on this, a failure of the FBI up and fown the chain of command. It’s about as strong a medicine as I’ve seen in a report of this kind...

....in a very long time. The FBI has had some dark day in its past, but nothing like this. This was VERY SERIOUS MISCONDUCT ON THE PART OF THE FBI.” @brithume @BretBaier

Are you listening Comey, McCabe, lovers Lisa & Peter, the beautiful Ohr family, Brennan, Clapper & many more?

I don’t know what report current Director of the FBI Christopher Wray was reading, but it sure wasn’t the one given to me. With that kind of attitude, he will never be able to fix the FBI, which is badly broken despite having some of the greatest men & women working there!

To Impeach a President who has proven through results, including producing perhaps the strongest economy in our country’s history, to have one of the most successful presidencies ever, and most importantly, who has done NOTHING wrong, is sheer Political Madness! #2020Election

Meaning that the Director didn't have a two page report that was 50% brightly colored pictures.

Created by a Trump sycophant in deep fear of giving the petulant 2 year old in office anything that might upset him.

Interesting that Trump’s tweet was so unknowingly accurate...

There's no real doubt that Trump weighed in to block Amazon, which may be one of the reasons Mattis resigned.

Trump's next defense secretary was more compliant. No way to know who will win the case, but Pentagon contracts are supposed to be awarded according to strictly prescribed criteria, not Trump's whims.

I'm pretty sure there are tweets where Trump has attacked Bezos and Amazon as well. Remember how the law prohibits the President from promoting (or anti-promoting) private businesses, that he breaks all the time, but here is a case where they could show improper influence and hold him accountable.

May Trump continue to dump on his own appointees. He was already displeased with Pompeo for "allowing" State Department employees to testify in the impeachment hearings. (It's still not clear to me why Pompeo didn't simply forbid them to). And, Barr appears to be warming up the bus to throw Giuliani under it.

I'm reminded of "sow the wind, real the whirlwind, or more bluntly, "Lie down with dogs, get up with fleas."

I want this nest of vipers to keep snapping at each other, leaving Trump isolated with no one to trust. He deserves all that, and more. Mashallah.

Meanwhile he's 0 for 2 in his bogus investigations: Hillary's email and oranges of the Mueller report. I suppose he could say, "That proves how powerful the Deep State really is."
.
Yep, they're coming to take you away, Mr. President.

As if anyone believes he reads anything.

*Defensive* He read it!

Okay, fine, he skimmed it.

Okay, okay he had someone else skim it and turn it into a one screen PowerPoint presentation with only 4 bullet points and no big words.

Which he then didn't pay attention to because he was on his phone tweeting.

Perhaps it's time to start a thread on the Trump presidency so we won't risk derailing this thread about ethics in corporate capitalism.

Also recall that this whole Bezos tangent stemmed out of a comparison to Trump's record as a businessman.

On that particular point, I have to say that yes, they both show the same vein towards screwing over the people who helped them get where they are as much as their particular form of business model would allow.

Trump's came in the form of stiffing contractors until they settled for a fraction, Bezos's comes in the form of offering nothing but paltry compensation for unrealistic expectations of productivity to begin with. On this specific point, I find them both to be shrewd, miserly dickbags.

I confess I didn't read the thread before I posted my question about impeachment. I figured it would probably be a topic active in this thread. Silly me.
