And then how Schiff recognized their painfully obvious tactic as well, and got in front of it with his closing statement.

I noticed Giuliani was heading for the bus yesterday. Miller and Volker both made disparaging references to Giuliani. The Republicans let those go unchallenged.

Rumor is Pompeo is going to resign soon because Trump is hurting his image and he has desires to run for a Senate seat. There's nothing concrete, which is why I'm not linking to anything, but if true that would be pretty tough to handle for Trump. It seems like everyone is bailing on him and it's exposing some cracks in the wall.

High crimes as a term was also mostly defined by the common law at the time of ratification. It is pretty broad and includes all manner of things that aren't crimes were they applied to people not holding office. .

Modern eyes want to erroneously view the "high" modifier as meaning that impeachment is limited to the most serious crimes. This is backward. The "high" modifier refers to crimes relating to the powers of the office. It is a term that broadens the scope to general malfeasance, rather than narrow it.

The term "high" refers to the office, not the crime or the person, in the same way that a chief representative of one country in another is sometimes referred to, not just as the Commissioner, but as the "High" Commissioner.

Also, treason against the State was simply called "treason" (originally "petty treason"), but treason against the monarch was called "High Treason". The "High" refers to the monarch's office NOT the crime. High Treason is not in and of itself a worse treason than ordinary treason.

For Nunes to whine that the Dems won't allow Hunter Biden to testify rather loses its punch when you consider that Trump has ordered Mulvaney, Pompeo, Perry, and a host of others not to testify. You know, all those people with direct knowledge of the 'non-existent' quid pro quo who could allegedly clear him.
 
The classic expression of that is the Congress could impeach and remove a president from office for eating a cheese sandwich.

That is the assumption, but if Congress were to get too out there it is possible that the Supreme Court could decide that at some point it stops being a political question. Like if it is done in bad faith.

The Constitution clearly says

Article I, Section 2, Clause 5 The House of Representatives ... shall have the sole Power of Impeachment.

Article I, Section 3, Clauses 6 and 7 The Senate shall have the sole Power to try all Impeachments. When sitting for that Purpose, they shall be on Oath or Affirmation. When the President of the United States is tried, the Chief Justice shall preside: And no Person shall be convicted without the Concurrence of two-thirds of the Members present.
Judgment in Cases of Impeachment shall not extend further than to removal from Office, and disqualification to hold and enjoy any Office of honor, Trust or Profit under the United States; but the Party convicted shall nevertheless be liable and subject to Indictment, Trial, Judgment and Punishment, according to Law

The President, Vice President and all civil Officers of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors.

The Court has NO AUTHORITY in regards to impeachment. NONE.

Durham is the name of the Justice Department official who is allegedly investigating FBI/Justice Department "Deep State" interference in the 2016 election. Endlessly cited by Trump supporters whenever anything damaging to Trump comes out. "Just wait until the Durham report comes out".

Oh of course I could. They claim that he claimed to know everything about Ukraine, which is not demonstrated anywhere, and that not knowing how much a Burisma board member made means he's not an expert on Ukraine, which is invalid reasoning on its face.

But here is the thing; they don't care about their argument. They, like most Trump supporters who aren't just paying no attention, are in no way arguing in good faith. It doesn't matter to them what they're saying, if it's true, if it isn't even physically possible, or if it's the opposite of what they argued before. All they want is for you to spend time addressing what they're saying. They'll deny and narrow in on the most minute aspect of your rebutle and discuss that and generally behave as if the entire case rests on that often completely irrelevant aspect.

Any time spent on their nonsense is time not spent on the clear evidence of corruption and crime. It is mud in the water, and all they are doing is throwing mud.

The proper, productive thing is to just move on and let them kick and scream, like they do at the close of the hearings. They're whiners; they aren't debaters.

The CHief Justice will preside over the Trial in the Senate, but that is the extend of the Supreme Court's invovlment. And it's pretty much a cut and dried proceeduial job.
