UK - December 2019 General Election

I really think Farage prefers being a big fish in a small pond then a small fish in a big pond.
He is also finding out that he has served his political purpose, and now the powers that be in the Tory party considers him a expendable liability.

Farrage likes being a power broker, being paid for being an MEP despite not turning up and making lots of money by being the face of the 'common' Brexiter, if he gets what he's always claimed he wants this all goes away. Maybe his strategy isn't to undermine the Tories to drag out or wreck Brexit so his pay cheques keep arriving, but if it isn't it's hard to distinguish from it.

A government plan to create 200,000 new homes for first-time buyers has resulted in no homes being built despite setting aside £2.3 billion for the project the National Audit Office has found.

Wasn't there a Monty Python sketch featuring a government minister being interviewed about the fact that his government had promised to build a million billion trillion new houses but had in fact built only three?

A Conservative general election candidate has apologised for a Facebook post in which she said people on a TV show needed "putting down".

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-politics-50283520

Or in other words "'Sorry I said that people on benefits should be exterminated. I forgot about needing to look good for the election"
Meh, you get these every election. It is imo more important what they said or did last month than years ago.
I mean who hasn't in the past posted a flippant reply while drunk, reposted a funny but edgy comment, responded to provocation or put their penis in a dead pigs head?

And now that man of the people JRM has put his foot in it too.

And I think if either of us were in a fire, whatever the fire brigade said, we would leave the burning building. It just seems the common sense thing to do.

and then........

What I meant to say is that I would have also listened to the fire brigade's advice to stay and wait at the time.
However, with what we know now and with hindsight I wouldn't and I don't think anyone else would. I would hate to upset the people of Grenfell if I was unclear in my comments.

and then........

As I just commented to my wife, Mogg has probably never been in a twenty story residential tower block of this type, I suspect he thinks if there's a fire in the east wing you just go down the west west wing stair case and if granny can't make it on her own you have the footmen carry her. I'd say the man is complete ****, but you feel better after one of those.

Tories make me physically sick.

This crop seem ultra Tory to me. Johnson, Gove, JRM, Patel, Raab ...

And it looks like it's going to get dirty (on the Tory side at least):

"So this happened. The Conservative Party took an interview from @GMB this morning. They edited it to add on the last shot in which Keir Starmer looks stumped. But that didn't happen. In the original Keir Starmer immediately answered @piersmorgan 's question."

Dead cat - compared to Mogg's literally meaningless apology - seriously can anyone parse his "clarification"?

I think he's saying that if the poor people weren't poor, they could, like him, afford a time machine to realise that of course this time they should ignore the Fire Brigade's advice.

Tory MP Andrew Bridgen was sent out to talk to the media and says that Jacob Rees-Mogg would have survived Grenfell because he is 'cleverer' than the victims.

Double :jaw-dropp:jaw-dropp (that makes 4, I suppose)

"Mr Bridgen went on to say that there was "no malice" in Mr Rees-Mogg's comments because he is "one of the most compassionate and thoughtful politicians we've got"

And you know what? He will still get re-elected.

You think that the SNP may not win a seat in Scotland? I think it will be a yellow wash and the SNP will return all Scottish MPs.

I meant to return to this. While that would be a nice result (leaving aside some other problems with the SNP which have emerged since 2017), I wouldn't get your hopes up.

First, as I said, even the black-swan event of a hair under 50% of the vote in Scotland in 2015 only delivered 56 out of 59 seats. But more importantly there is the problem of unofficial electoral pacts.

We are seeing situations in multiple seats across Scotland where the three unionist parties seem to be figuring out which one will be given in effect a free ride by the others. Not that they aren't standing, but that they clearly aren't trying. It might even get to the point at which we see the Labour party actively telling its voters to vote Conservative, as happened in 2017 and probably directly led to Theresa May being in a position to form a government. There are plenty seats where the SNP doesn't have 50% of the vote and can be beaten if all the unionist votes land on the same candidate.

And on the other side of that deal, the Greens are standing in seats which are SNP marginals, where they didn't stand in 2017. They have pretty much said that they hope to unseat Pete Wishart by taking enough votes off him for him to lose his tiny majority, even though what will then happen is that a Tory will take the seat. How they think that's going to be good for the environment (they don't think Pete's green enough), I can't begin to imagine.

So the SNP, and the independence cause, is going to need a bit of luck here. Cross your fingers.

Once again, learning from President Trump and the GOP, the Conservative's lying video of Sir Keir Starmer is just light-hearted and satirical

No it isn't, it was an attempt to mislead which was caught and instead of apologising like an adult, they lie again - pathetic.

Just a 'one off' incident apparently.

Other 'one off' incidents so far

Rees Mogg 'Grenfell'
Bridgen backs Rees-Mogg over Grenfell
Cabinet member backs who sabotaged rape trial
Hiding report re Russian interference
Trying to use civil service against Labour
